MySQL Mug and Ten Years of MySQL and PHP
Jamesday writes "Monty Widenius accepted a plaque celebrating ten years of MySQL and PHP at LinuxTag. Until the end of June MySQL also has some 10th anniversary MySQL mugs on sale which feature the names of all MySQL employees in April 2005, about 200 people who can personally testify that you can make a living from open source software. Since Slashdot and MySQL share many users in common, I asked the MySQL community manager to give some mugs away to the Slashdot crowd. An arbitrary number of registered Slashdot posters, at least one, whose answers are closest to the exact date when MySQL 1.0 was first released internally will get one. Answers in response to this post, 24 hour time limit; no employees, former employees, their relatives or others we think should be ineligible. Winner(s) will be notified by a reply to their post."
May 15, 1995?
April 19th, 1995.

Since this is in June... the internal release must have been in mid May . Anyway, I just picked it because it's my birtday ;)

Big shout out to Nostrodamus for that one
"There is also a reference to three years and seven months of peace before the war. Breytenbach told the newspaper that he suddenly realized that the Dayton peace accord was signed Nov. 21, 1995 and that adding three years and seven months to that brings us to the end of June 1999. But that Nostradamus passage is open to other interpretations. An alternative is that an alien being (King of Terror) will descend from the sky, destroying and enslaving humankind.""
Which clearly means that Mysql was released on may the 28th accounting for nostrodamus and his eccentricities in adding extra months and 2 days. Clearly the king of terror relates to mysql
The only things certain in war are Propaganda and Death. You can never be sure which is which though
Wonder how many others scurried off to Wikipedia .. no luck there though, so I'm just guessing.

My guess is March 1, 1995.

May 2, 1995.
The second of May, '95. Why not? It must have been in May, they started with the mugs a while back, and it makes sense to release at the start or end of the month.
Reason #1: It was a thursday :)
Reason #2: It would be a nice conicidence if it was released the same day as Personal Home Page Tools (PHP Tools) version 1.0.
So it's a trick question; 1.0 hasn't been released yet (last stable version 0.9.8.2137, latest nightly 0.9.9.3334), but real soon now!
More precisely: 1995-05-09 08:13:20 +0200.
By the way, I've never seen that message before:
It was: April 2nd, 1995

There's just something about getting the employees to sign the mug in April... and this keeps with it being a Thursday (if that's more than just a rumor) and happens to be very close to the day that this article was posted.

After all, we are talking about a DB with lackluster features and poorer performance compared to other databases.

I am guessing somewhere MySQL was released internally around February 14, 1994.

Should have been close to 3. June 1994
Yet another typo graces the front page of Slashdot. Of course, what they meant to say was:
"No employees, former employees, their relatives or others, we think, should be ineligible." Hurrah for inclusivity.
Don't know why but seems like a good day.
Congrats!
The exact date, according to Monty, was May 23rd.
So you were pretty close.
Please email me (arjen [at] mysql [dot] com) with your name/address details, and I'll make sure you get a mug and other stuff I can find.
Note that as your email is not public on slashdot, it's upto to prove that you are you.

Hi everybody,
;-)
According to Monty, the correct answer for MySQL Version 1.0 is 23rd May 1995.
Two people got really close, 20th and 26th May, so they will each get an anniversary mug and other stuff.
The person who rambled on about Nostradamus amazingly got close as well (May 28th) and I reckon that in any case such creativity deserves to be rewarded
Those who assumed that there was any significance in when I first put the mugs online... sorry. The mugs just appeared when Mike Zinner finished the design.... At the time, I did not even know the precise date. We had to ask Monty later.
Thanks to everybody for their participation and good humour.
Regards, Arjen.

I just had completely no idea , so i did what anybody would do in that situation. .

I forgot to add something about the 3 years after the date and the terror being slashdot hitting servers
