    I keep posting the "Friends dont let friends buy Sony" comment on most Sony related articles.

    I now wonder if Sony are monitoring me. They certainly are modding these posts flaimbait consistently.

    Are they going through my thrash, and obtaining my phone records as well?

    Anyway I boldly repeat here again:

    Much of the money you spend buying Sony gear goes to support anti consumer efforts from DRM, Infected CD's, Unusable due to DRM Blu-Ray HD-DVD. They may actually help kill the entire HD DVD effort.

    Fellow /.ers, help me fight aganst the evil Sony agents and mod this up.

    The venture firm that invested in Google itself also invested in youtube, and I think the VC (which is on Googles board) really wanted their Youtube investment to be a success, and cashed in some brownie points.

    They probably also got enough PR and excitement around hight tech investments that they might pull inn a few billlions more from other VC investors.

    Google probably dont mind spending an extra billion making their old VC friends happy.

    The causality is not that people good in math are bad with people. It is that the people lacking social skills that become as good in math as they potentially can. Rather than spending the weekend and evenings in highschool and college partying and getting laid, they study.

    There are a pencentage of those good in math, that are social lions, and are still good in math despite wasting away those years on parties and sex.

    Then again, they are probably not wasting away their time on /. either...

    OK, Call it flamebait, but mod it "Interesting".

    Any money you spend on Sony gear goes to pay for DRM, CDs infected with crap and other things we dont want.

    Last time I bought Sony was in 2004. It was a nice theater system with a DVD changer for my parents in law. It did not play their french DVDs, and no workaround.

    *no more*

    They bought a cheap player and placed it on top, and use the Sony as a table.

    The standard big bad wolf that was used anytime someome wanted to stop you from doing something completely reasonable in the US used to be "Sorry, but due to liability, you cant...".

    That implied some kind of financial damage if you did not listen.

    Now the standard has changed to "terrorist threat". Imagine being sent to GitBay, shipped to Syria and tortured, and imprisoned forever. That is a hell of a lot more efficient.

    I have noticed that in the US nobody dear to
    1. Cross the line into the garage to look at the guys changing tires on their car anymore.
    2. Allow thir children to ride in the shopping carts
    3. Use opposite sex bathrooms
    4. Engage in significan physical activity
    5. Any other activity that looks like terrorist planning or execution.

    I would like to convince you of this. First to rephrase, the black hole is an aspmptotic limit when to goes to infinity.

    A clock is falling towards a "future" black hole. The clock stops its fall (Or we compensate for his speed in our calculations) and compares its time with that of a our distant clock.
    As the gravitional field increases he will see that:

    (1) t*=t[1-(2GM)/(rc^2)]
              Oviously, when
    (2) r=2GM/c^2 => t*=0 (This is of course a limit expression, but you get my point)

    I will use the phrase event horizon to refer to the surface that will form the evetnhorizon when time asymtotically -> infinity.

    This r, is the event horizon or Schwarzschild radius. (To simplify the math, we assume that the hole in non-rotating. If it rotated, the equations gets messy. Including that the event horizon will differ from the Schwarzschild radius. This however will not reduce the univesality of the argument)

    So for the external observer, as the clock falls toward the black hole, it will slow down, and as it approaches the event horizon, it will slow down, and effectively "freeze".

    The future event horizon will be a graveyard littered with debris frozen in time. The debris and our clock will asymtotically approach the event horizon as t-> infinity.

    Now, we all agree on this bascic theory.

    Now my claim is that because of the above observation, a black hole can not form in any finite time.

    It does not take any math to think through this. If the hole is already there, fine, but think of a region of space asymtotically close to becoming a black hole as it absorbes mass. The time dilatation approches infinity *before* the black hole forms.

    This effectively stops the black hole from forming in any finite time for the distant observer.

    Of course, as distant observers looking at small and medium black holes, the distinction I am making is not very relevant. You will see enourmous radiation as matter spirals toward the event horizon, indicating the violent gravity and tidal forces. There will be little difference in the observation.

    With a truly massive blck hole the difference would be distingisuable. Ther ewould of course be no singularity inside, and the mass distribution would be asymtotically like it was before the region got close to forming a black hole.
    So:
    1. This is experimentally verifiable
    2. Conforming to general relativity

    First, the diameter of a "black hole" is proportional to its mass. The sun, for example, must be compressed to a diameter of about 3km to become a black hole. A black hole with the mass of billion suns would have a dameter=3 billion km or the size our solar system. The density of this black hole would be "low" as in much thinner than air. (Do the math yourself. Mass of sun is 2x10E30kg)

    By size, we mean the event horizon.

    Anyway, as a region of space gets denser, time slows down, and as the density approaches the density required to become black hole, time just freezes.

    What you will see when looking at a "black hole" is just a region of space with the eventual event horizon of the hole just frozen in time, and as you move outside, time goes through the "molasses" stage, and as you get further away, gets normal.

    The black hole will not form in any finite time since time there just stopped!

    For the observer falling towards the "hole", time in the rest of the universe just speeds up. In a matter of minutes the universe will age billions of years, and the observer will first hand know the ultimate fate of the universe in a distant future.

    Also, if you happend to be in a region of space that was getting close to become of a big black hole, you would not notice much.

    If you comment on this, please give me the actual physics and math, It is not very complicated. Yes, I know many scientists disagree with me.

    Just think for yourself for a minute.

    Is this the new standard for chip dimensions? Or does the author think his audience is not able to comprehend such complicated technical terms as 4mm?

    Another RFID chip with really short range? Is this part of a new cellphone with really short operating range, realy short battery life, and really dim display, all for security reaons?

    And to finish my excellent analysis: When do you really need a lot of memory in the RFID chip? Store the data on a huge disk, and your really just need an index (from the RFID chip) into the data. A barcode would be just fine in most apps.

    Just some background info.
    Europe and US has a huge difference in privacy rights. In Europe the individual owns his own data. In the US the entity (read corporation) owns whatever they can collect (And sell).

    In Norway, for example, if you are unhappy with your credit rating, you just call them and tell them that they have to erase all data they have on you. (This will of course not result in a good score of course). Companies can not keep any information other than what is needed to complete a customer transaction. They can not sell it. The information belongs to you. A patchwork of laws are added to create "holes" in this "firewall" of privacy. Like credit reporting agencies

    In the US, Corporations owns whatever they can get, and can sell it as they like. There is no "Privacy firewall" A patchwork of laws is applied in an attempt to plug the glaring errors in this system.

    Before anyone spends money on "RT", carefully consider if you have a clue as to what you need.

    Real time (RT) might be neccesary if you have a 4.77MHz processor and a huge strange operating system, and try to implement a soft modem. For most other applications it is not.

    With a 2GHz processor it's no issue.

    Example of "realtime" software running just fine on a Windows XP box

    802.11b wifi stack with L2 and up in software! The interrupt handler triggered by the radio on packet receive has a max delay of about 800ns or 800. That's good enought.
    It actually varies from a few ns to 800ns

    Can you come up with a scenario where this variation is unacceptable?

    Seems like XP is a pretty good RT OS.

    Almost any Linux distro is a lot better (and controllable) than XP.

    first, a startup/small company gets a 65% discount off $3300 or $1155.
      And if some of the developers work on tools you plan to share source for that development station is free!

    Thats pretty reasonable. Actually quite cheap.

    M$ MDSN pricing is $10,939 for the MSDN team suite. That includes up to 5 developers.

    Trying to develop anything with windows without this is just stupid.

    If you add the test facility with another 30 computers for running tests etc,
    M$ will be much more expensive.

    I have tried both for actual products. In addition to much higher cost for M$, it is also alway a hassle with all the "Genuine advantage" crap. Reinstalling XP for testing various languages and new hardware configurations and having to call MS is just a huge hassle.

    This device uses a relative modest 9TW. The submitter suggests some portable applications.

    I'll get one of these, throw away the whole electron/laser surf part, and just use the portable 9TW generator in my Toyota Prius.

    That should get me from 0 to escape velocity in 1 microsecond.

    What it the purpose of the book here? Watching the video demo, the interface is mechanically awkward, and you need the computer hooked up to the book anyway.

    Compared to a touch screen you have:
    1. Two fundamentally different displays: paper and screen
    2. Two fundamentally different navigation tools: press on paper and use mouse on screen

    My 4 year old uses a touch screen just fine. It appears you have to be older to use this contraption.
