  1. Hackers delight on RPC DCOM Cleanup Worm Appears · · Score: 1

Whether it's port 135 or pings, I'm sitting here watching my firewall reject these packets.

While the computer is vulnerable, it's not exactly saying so. With the worm doing it's thing the computers are now saying "hack me, I've got holes!"

If I were a dodgy sort, I could be collecting these IPs and installing backdoors on them all, for my later use.

Personally, if I knew I had the worm, I wouldn't trust the computer any longer.
    It would be a format/reinstall.

  2. Moon competition will be a good thing on India Plans Moon Mission by 2008 · · Score: 3, Interesting

I think it's a good thing that countries like India and China have their sights set at the moon.
The sooner we start mining the He3 up there, the better.
For the whole planet's sake, we've gotta start colonising the moon.

  3. Bug finder - Worm writer on LovSan Clone Let Loose · · Score: 1

Could you imagine the mayhem if the RPC flaw was not reported? If the worm was written without anyone's knowledge? If the payload were on Microsoft *and* Antivirus update sites? All it would take is a bughunter to change hats. It gives me the heebies.

  4. Paperless Office on Computer Expectations of Today, and a Decade Hence? · · Score: 1

10 years from now... I imagine cardboard thin tablet PCs enabled for short range wireless networking - perhaps hybrid celluar. Screen resolution/quality will be similar to that of a glossy magazine. User input will be by wireless enabled microphones, which the user wears however pen will be used for pointing functions where voice doesn't work. Perhaps even a camera which watches where you're looking as a pointing device - if they can ever get around the jitter problems. Plain paper is being phased out. Office printers are becoming fewer - office scanners are used for migrating paper documents into doc mgt systems. A special port for a cryptocard type keyfob is the new style of creditcard. To purchase the morning newspaper, click purchase, plug in your key, validate merchant code, enter security code, read newspaper. It's a start...
