The Bald Eagle was taken off the endangered species list a month or so ago, suprisingly.:)
The arrogant "i'm more important than some dumb bird" attitude really will be the downfall of our own species. (Although, perhaps that would be for the best.;P)
Mistake of ours, as in humans. The bird itself might not be "important", but the things we'll likely learn from doing it ARE.
I could go on about how you "feel no remorse", but I'm already pretty sickened by your egocentric "oh well, it's not MY problem" attitude. I'm sure they showed the same sort of feelings about the Huia when they were slaughtering them for their own enjoyment.
That assumes _natural_ extinction. When a European fashion craze wipes out an animal, that's another story all together.
I certainly have no problem with trying to fix a mistake that we made. Bringing back, say, a species of dinosaurs, well...their time has come and gone. (What we consider a "natural" extinction is debatable too, I suppose, I mean WE'RE part of nature too.) Oh hell...bring the damn bird back.;D
Absolutely. I'm often put off by Segfault articles that just go a bit TOO FAR, and should never go beyond the inital joke, but The Onion writers seem to be able to extend jokes for quite a few paragraphs without going soft or lame. Copycat's like "The Mushroom", simply can't compare.
Certainly one of my favorite sites.

If they can pull off a nice upgrade like Nintendo did with their Color Gameboy, (improved display, improved clock speed, similar battery life), then I'm all for it.:)

Hey, I happen to love the Z80.;)
But yeah, even with 'beefy' 16-bit processors running at 'high' speeds, it was the content, price, and low power consumption that kept the Gameboy at the top. It's nice. Anyone know the exact year the Gameboy debuted in America (or in Japan, for that matter)?
I still secretly play my Atari Lynx now and then.;)

We've had the Atari Lynx, with 4096 colors and hardware scaling, backlight, etc. Game Gear. TurboXpress.
What's outlived them all? 4-color Gameboy.
Only NOW, in 1999 have they updated it to near NES color and a little more CPU muscle.
Perhaps the PDA market will mirror this...how long do those batteries last on your CE device?:)
People like you are WHY I haven't completely stopped reading the comments.:) A great deal of them really ARE a bunch of boring anal retentive geeks with no humor or life, and certainly give the community, a bad name.;D
Perhaps Slashdot is a somewhat accurate reflection of humanity itself? Lots of morons, a moderate amount of really nice people? *shrug*
According to this article on CNN (where I heard it
originally), they're off it now:
