I think i'm one of the only people who actually likes Unity. I know it's cool to hate it but personal tastes differ. And i'm somebody who used to use E16.
Ubuntu is too popular to be cool here. As soon as something becomes popular, it ceases to be cool. Yeah yeah, unity sucks balls bla bla bla... but you don't have to use that window manager. Canonical has made Ubuntu successful. I'm not happy about the Amazon thing either, but you can at least turn it off (and I might not even, as I do shop on Amazon).
I made that mistake the first time I bought a smartphone. It's running CM10, and i'll probably bring it higher than that until it ceases to be supported, but it's not an easy device to install a custom ROM on. For me it's Nexus from now on. At least then I know the boot-loader is going to be unlock-able and i'll probably get official updates for a very long time if I choose to go that route (i'm currently doing that with my Nexus 7, which I love).
Precisely what I was hoping for... yet no download link and no list of supported devices. Anybody likely to want to use Linux is also likely to be technically capable to install one -- especially on a Nexus device. Trying to market this to the general public is destined to failure without the ability to at the very least run Android apps and have access to the Google Play store.
Is there any evidence whatsoever that the recent shooter even played video games at all? I hate these people. Bunch of fucking reactionary idiots. We have these shootings because we've created gun-free target practice zones for anybody who wants to ignore the sign and shoot up the place. There have always been and will always be crazy people willing to kill a lot of innocents. This shit just happens now because we've given them ample opportunity to cause an extreme amount of damage without any hindrance whatsoever.
I tend to agree swiping is a cool feature but your examples don't exactly seem to defeat his argument. The N9 cool but was DOA. WebOS was cool but is also now dead. You'd think if swiping was such a fantastic feature it would exist in successful devices. Personally I think that stuff is better left to the app (Chrome on Android's tab switching is a good example). Apple's solution (4 or more finger grab) works because it's not easy to accidentally perform and few if any applications need to use that combo. Microsoft's is total fail because it's easy to accidentally do and it's not by any means intuitive. I'd say Canonical has done a better job, but doing a good job is hardly a guarantee of success.
On a practical note, if brightness is your only concern, you might try MX Player. Slide your finger up or down on the left side of the screen to adjust screen brightness. Right side is volume, bottom scrolls through your video, and top... i'm not sure what top does.
And there are plenty of anti-gun lunatics out there who would love for a threat to be made just so they can say "see how they are!" One could even argue that's a possible motivation of the recent school shooter. In his fucked up mind, "kill a few, save a thousand", could easily have been a justification, and it would certainly explain the destruction of his hard drives. For what other conceivable motive would he have not wanted his motivation to be known. To me the only reason would be if the intended effects of his actions (backlash against guns) wouldn't come to pass if they were openly his stated goal. Nobody would consider banning guns if that's what the lunatic openly wanted. Can you think of another reason he would have destroyed his HDD?
Oops. I lost my gun yesterday. Fell down a well. Yup, officer, it's totally, 100%, gone. Sorry I haven't reported it. I was just heading out to do that right now when you rang.
Hey. She can play the same game if she really wants to that much. Somehow I don't think it's likely. Until HR people can grow brains and stop disqualifying people for stupid shit, this sort of SEO assholery is going to be necessary.
I share a name with a celebrity so i'm in the same situation. Unless you know my nick, you don't find me. If you do, you can probably find quite a bit, but i'm careful to make sure no employers or clients know my nick. I keep an alternate email and so forth for that.
It's even better with me. My name is shared with a celebrity, so nobody ever finds me by directly searching for me unless they already have my nickname, which I would never give to a prospective employer or client.
Indeed. Depending on the kind of person you are and who you wish to work for, it might be of benefit to have a slightly "dirty" online persona to weed out the prudes.
That wouldn't solve her problem, which is that somebody with her exact name had been a very bad girl online. In that case, it makes sense to create a "clean" persona and attempt to push that to the top.
You're judging a group (drug users) by individual's actions, implying they are all the same and are collectively guilty of crimes before they even commit them. You reduce human beings to robots, denying them any personal responsibility. It's not the government's business what a person puts in their body. It's their business if they hurt others directly, and the motive for such action, whether chemical or otherwise is utterly and completely and totally irrelevant. Drugs do not make people do things. The may provide some motive, but they cannot force a person.
You lost a friend because he was told his entire life that he was powerless over a disease he was born with and had to rely on a fictional deity to make his decisions for him. Societal stupidity killed your friend and nobody has learned from it. Your solution is to remove the ability to feel any pleasure whatsoever. Sorry, but death is preferable to that existence. If somebody ever removes my ability to feel pleasure I hope somebody kills me.
Plex is an xbmc fork. The frontend is open source. It only transcodes for portable devices, which is a nice feature. The main client handles uncompressed blue ray quite well.
The player supports HDMI out for the raw audio stream, at least on windows. It does handle, multiple audio streams. It also handles multiple subtitle streams either in the file, in the same folder, or grabbed from online on the fly if it can find them (YMMV, but it sometimes works).
It does transcode for certain portable devices (obviously you do then lose the multichannel audio and some quality) but I believe it can also serve up the file raw. O haven't tested it with my TV's dlna. I have my gaming / mpc computer plugged directly into the amp and tv so it's using the plex client, which it does not transcode for. I personally love Plex. It matches all my rips out of ~3TB of data, even TV downloads... Hardly any errors, and those are easy to fix. I have no problems playing back 1080p with DTS / DD. I haven't tested any remuxes with master audio, but I would be very surprised if it didn't work.
So because he uses drugs and is perhaps a bit paranoid (then again, the doppleganger did come in handy), he's more likely to be guilty in your mind. That's awfully well reasoned of you.
I think it's perfectly reasonable not to hand your fate over to some third world country's justice system. That being said, i'm not sure he's telling the truth about everything he says in his blog. Then again, he could very well have good reason to lie or mislead until he feels he's safe enough to let down his guard and come out publicly. So what if he's a bit crazy or paranoid. Living in a shitty country with a lot of money you often have good reason to be.
I was in Amsterdam this summer. They had no issues selling to me although I am not a citizen. Some coffee shops even had signs saying "no wietpass, tourists welcome". I have a feeling it's only enforced in the border regions. Amsterdam would take too big a hit to tourist revenue if it was actually enforced there.
Reminds me of the Tim Leary quote "Psychedelics often produce psychotic and even violent behavior in those who have never used them."
I think i'm one of the only people who actually likes Unity. I know it's cool to hate it but personal tastes differ. And i'm somebody who used to use E16.
It's never happened with Laptops. Why would it happen with desktops. Enclosures for such small devices.... not going to happen.

This is exactly what people like her fear. I'm not saying it's a realistic fear, but it's a common one.
I didn't have to click on images. The result came up under the Images subsection of a normal search (albeit lower down the page).
