The fuck are you on about? Assad supports Hezbollah and is an ally to Iran. Why on earth would Israel support Syria. If you want to know who IS supporting Syria, look to Iran, China, and Russia, and the latter two only because of oil from and weapons sales to Syria and Iran. It's in Israel's interests to back the rebels if anybody, but won't do so publicly because in the Arab world, if a Jew is on your side, you lose all credibility. As much has been said by the current administration in Israel. The rebels might not exactly be friendly to Israel, but it can't possibly get much worse than the current regieme in Syria.
So Israel, is supporing Assad you say? An ally of Iran and a state supporter of terrorist attacks against Israel (Hezbollah, among others)? Seems to be Israel has no reason at all to support Assad. Sure the rebels might exactly be friendly either, but they can hardly be worse. No matter who is in power, weapons are going to get smuggled into Lebanon. Sunni may not like Shiite, but they both hate the Jews and are willing to cooperate when convenient. Iran supplies and funds Hamas and other Sunni groups, for example, not just Hezbollah.
You can't do that without the sort of force the soviets used. If we attempted to set up secular schools and force people to go the schools, they would get blown up in seconds. Even in the current situation they poison entire girls schools rather than let them get some (Islamic) education. Stripping religion from a society is an ugly business -- although sometimes entirely necessary for progress to occur.
That's assuming tensions can be decreased. That's assuming if we decrease pressure, Iran or North Korea would back down. The problem with your assumptions is it assumes everybody is rational and by the same things. In case you haven't noticed, not everybody is. In Iran's case, religion is a big factor. Mutually assured destruction, to people who regularly strap explosives to their chests, is not a deterrent but rather an incentive. In North Korea's case, you have a teenager in charge who has been brought up his whole life as some sort of Messiah. I would trust Rick Santorum or Sarah Palin with ICBMs before I would trust those two.
Free speech concerns aside, I'm much more afraid of terrorists promoting their agenda in the dark than those who shout it from the rooftops. It's a lot easier to keep track of people stupid enough to put themselves out in the public sphere (and those who associate with them).
Often caring parents understand (and care) a lot more about their kid's particular disabilities and strengths than somebody who is dealing with a classroom of kids. For example. I had trouble with handwriting so my parents allowed me to type everything (I can write slowly, but my particular disability, Motor Dysgraphia, makes it very slow and stressful). In a public school I would have been held back or mislabeled -- certainly not allowed to use a computer to type my work in class. And even if they did allow me to use a computer in class, I would certainly have been made fun of as the odd one out. It's likely the kid is dyslexic if he's behind in reading and the best thing for that is with parents who know about the disability and can help the kid to overcome it while tailoring education so it doesn't become a hindrance to his other studies.
What my parents did was subscribe to a home-school package. The package would include everything you would need for the courses. Chemistry included Bunsen burners, beakers, chemicals and so on. The biology package included various vacuum packaged animals (frogs, fetal pig, etc). There are solutions out there and for the most part by the time I reached the age when I had exceeded my parent's ability to teach, I was motivated enough to read the book and do the work on my own. Yes. Sometimes experiments didn't go as planned so they had to be repeated. There is nothing in the way of a person doing that at home. You simply go back, follow the instructions again, and see what you did wrong. Have an open mind. The problems you note have been thought about and solutions presented. As another poster noted, in many areas it's common for home-schoolers to get together as a group and have advanced classes with, say, a PhD.
They can't defend themselves against the warrant, sure, but if the evidence collected is ever used against them in court, they do have the opportunity to contest whether it was collected validly. Take this terrorist for example. Here you have a guy who is contesting the evidence against him on the grounds the FISA warrant was obtained improperly. He may win. In most countries they would simply put a bullet in the back of his head and be done with it.
So? Don't want that level of security? Don't fly El Al. They may offend your delicate sensibilities but you can hardly argue with results. Personally I'd prefer their proven methods to our security theatre.
Yes, I would. Because his power is checked by other branches of government. I could care less what his personal opinions about me are so long as he is unable to legislate them, as much as he might like to. The things he would have power to legislate (economy, foreign policy, etc...) I would have no problem with.
Funny how we're not seeing an article every other day of some Christian atrocity. Yes, the Bible sucks too, but all religions are not equally bad. Some are worse than others. Listen to Sam Harris.
Who gives a fuck. Christianity and Judaism is full of bullshit too... but Christians and Jews aren't flying planes into buildings. They've learned to ignore the barbarous, sexist, and homophobic aspects of their religions. Islam has not.
Breivik wrote that religion was a crutch. He saw it as a placebo useful to stave off fear of death. Additionally, he saw Christianity itself as too peaceful for his goals and argued Christianity would need to be reformed into something more violent (something more like the Crusaders). Was he Christian? Depends on your definition, but he clearly saw Christianity as a cultural identity in addition to a religion in the same sense white supremacists do and the Nazis did. In his compendium he spoke of "athiest christians" and so forth. Hardly the fundamentalist some have portrayed him to be. He was simply insane. Nothing he did was in line with new testament teachings and I think even he would admit that.
How about you read the whole chapter in context. TL;DR version: If Christian/Jewish/Zoroastrian, then pay Jizya (tax until feel subdued) and live under humiliating Muslim rule as a second class citizen, convert, or die. If other (pagan/atheist/polytheist/buddhist/hindu), then convert or die. You're quoting bits out of context. Also, abrogation absolutely applies chronologically. Sura 9, the chapter you're quoting out of context, was the last book written and abrogates all others.
I'm Gay and i'd vote for Santorum. Why not? Obama is not going to let me marry. He says he supports gay marriage as a personal opinion but he quickly notes it should be left up to the states -- which is really no different than any of the republican candidates when it comes down to what will get done. When it comes down to it most presidents, regardless of party, will do pretty much the same things when they get elected. Plus. I'm sick of Obama sucking the cocks of our enemies and weakening our position on the world scale. I didn't much like the way Bush did things but I like Obama even less.
Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri
The Prophet said, "Isn't the witness of a woman equal to half of that of a man?" The women said, "Yes." He said, "This is because of the deficiency of a woman's mind."
Khamenei just recently said Israel was a "Cancer" that would be "cut out". He's worse than Ahmadinejad if you've been paying attention. He's the one that actually *believes* all the suicidal religious insanity. Ahmadinejad is just a politician.
You might consider installing a custom rom such as ClockworkMod. The stock rom on the Evo is loaded with bloatware. Properly written apps should suspend themselves even when running in the background on Android. Carriers aren't always so careful. Don't blame Google for what carriers do to Android. If you want a real android experience, either flash CWM, or buy a nexus. My partner's nexus lasts easily a day and a half with moderate usage (~1hr browsing / day). My Galaxy S flashed with ICS has similar life. It's not quite as good as an iPhone, but it's pretty close.
And given a fair trial. And not given the death penalty, which does not exist in Israel (they made an exception for Eichmann). So in your mind holding Nazi war criminals who aided in genocide accountable is somehow equivalent to terrorism, murder, rioting, and so forth?

Fear of sufficient earthly punishment also works. Just ask Singapore.

Aha. Maybe Google wasn't aware of this either. The name of the association sounds mighty governmental.
That's very true, but here we have a government ordering a private entity to take content down, unless i'm misreading the summary.

I'm not saying I wouldn't vote republican anyway. I'm just saying being gay isn't a reason to automatically vote democrat.
Funny how we're not seeing an article every other day of some Christian atrocity. Yes, the Bible sucks too, but all religions are not equally bad. Some are worse than others. Listen to Sam Harris.
Then burn the bible too. Only Christians won't kill you for doing it.
Who gives a fuck. Christianity and Judaism is full of bullshit too... but Christians and Jews aren't flying planes into buildings. They've learned to ignore the barbarous, sexist, and homophobic aspects of their religions. Islam has not.
Also: McVeigh was an athiest.

Sahih Bukhari 3:48:826
And this is hardly the instance of this in Islam.
