Hi,
With no HD and Microsofts' interest in besting Apple's music store, one strategy could be that you wouldn't have the MP3s (or whatever) on you XBox (computer) anymore. They'd be on the central M$ server (waiting for MyDoom, or whatever). Benefit for people: They wouldn't have to juggle DRM when moving to another XBox (computer) and would remain faithful Microsoft customers for the rest of their life (or lose their files).
Just speculation (which has a higher caloric value than kerozene).

If laws were passed that for every deal one could reverse any payments and be allowed to keep the goods, there wouldn't be any spam business.
The only thing I can't solve is that it could entice sick people to send spam themselves: "Hey Apple sent me spam for G5 superclusters and 17" PowerBooks" to get the goodies for free.
I've been dreaming of a similar device like this for many many years. My device would be a bit more intelligent, and allow me to tell my device which girl I like. My device would contact her device. If she happened to be interested in me too, the devices would interchange a couple of data, like her hobbies, so I'd know what to start a conversation on.
I think it is ok that Disney gets to keep its cartoon characters etc. for as long as it exists. But why do they have to get that right for free? Why are laws written to keep their rights eternal, when at the same time stuff (including things that have nothing to do with their material) are kept out of the public domain as well, as a result of their desire?
Wanna keep a copyright after 25 years after the creator died? Pay for it! I'm a patent attorney, and take my word for it that intellectual property laws are there for society as a whole, not for privileging few. If the latter is the case, I call it abuse.
Can' they provide they provide a "Mandrake-modified" ready to install disk-image on DVD then? I think that would allow Mandrake to be the distributor and saving the customer any hassle (installing a disk-image should be a double-click and get yourself a coke type of thing).
Someone know how to let the members of the European Parliament know about this? I believe that only if PCs come dual boot, the abuse of Microsofts monopoly can be broken.
The goal of a patent law is to make sure that knowledge gets into the hands of society, and not be kept secret. Because of that, society can build on those ideas, giving rise to even better ideas to the benefit of society. The reward for sharing your inventions is a patent.
I'm not under the impression that innovation in the software industry is currently being stiffled because of a lack of software protection, so patent protection for software can be said to be not necessary. If we want to promote innovation for software, make it mandatory that any PC sold with Windows has a partition with Linux/Unix too. People would learn that a thing called 'choice' exists.
For a free starter on AppleScript, way more up to date that the above book, check out http://fischer-bayern.de/applescript/html/ebook.ht ml where you can find AppleScript for Absolute Starters (pdf). It teaches the basics of AppleScript with the much improved Script Editor currently available in beta.
The web-page is in German, but if you look in the table, you'll find the English version of the booklet.

By making it compulsory?? Here in the European Union measures are contemplated against Microsoft abuse of its monopoly. One is to force Microsoft to include other media players. Why not require it to include other browsers. For that matter, why not require PC manufacturers to have another partition on the PCs they sell with some Unix/Linux on it. After all, they support Microsoft's monopoly by including only that OS, so meaures against them should be considered too. Currently, they take away the hassle of installing Windows. My suggestion would take away the hassle of installing, say, Linux too. It comes with a browser, OpenOffice etc. so people would know there is more than just IE and Office.

They could have opened the PP slideshow with Keynote and converted it to, say, pdf, allowing everybody to enjoy what is there. Bert
Ok, doest that make it time to fight over which browser had it first? Apple's Safari or Firebird?

Hi,
I happened to have seen Bowling for Columbine yesterday. In it the solution, provided by a very funny black entertainer. Make bullets $5000 a piece.

Who appreciates a lot of what Michael Moore makes.

Would it be possible to repartition "dynamically", without reformatting? Bert

I guess Mr Taylor abhors MSCE certification as well. Talking about a waste of time.
