Consumer says: Unlimited, no limitations? Provider: Yup! (Now the consumer needs to shut up and sign)
The Deal is done, if he doesn't give you a little bit of a disclaimer, bring their butt to court. Always get the name of the person you spoke to and time. If anything ever happens you have a MIGHTY sword to beat them down with.
That's why I like doing business with services by talking to people. Once you have their statements on record, and you make a decision to buy the service based on those statements, they have to honor them.
I used to work at a Mom-and-Pop ISP. We had an Unlimited package for 15 bucks, the only thing was you couldn't be connected for more then 23 hours and 50 minutes. We put that on the fliers and told that to every customer (most didn't have a problem). If you got disconnected, you could immediately re-connect and the timer would reset for you.
Besides, The court is pro-consumer, if the consumer is led to believe something, then they are in the right and the business is in the wrong.
Yeah I see your point, its just crap how they deal with the counsel systems themselves. The next one I buy I am getting at best buy or circuit city with the replace warranty so I just bring the dead one and they give me a new one. Screw the sending it off and waiting two weeks.
That's probably what its going come to anyhow. Nintendo is really the only company I think really cares about its stuff, probably Nintendo only does games, that's it, that's Nintendo. Sony and MS' systems are just side projects of a bigger company that already has a big foothold on their respective markets.
I really love the cube, I just wish it had online play for it. If CS was released for it like Xbox I would be playing the cube all the time. I already play it a lot for Metriod and Wario World. I just see a lot more work going into Nintendo products and they treat their customers well (one reason is I never had to deal with them). One thing is that Nintendo comes with a year warranty instead of 90 days....
Anyhow, That's just my $.02 I am mourning my PS2 since Christmas and since I am unemployed I cannot afford to replace it, and since I only played it maybe once a month, I doubt I will replace it until the PS2 hits about 50-70 bucks, maybe 100 but not until then. I can wait a couple years to pick up SOCOM II again. I put my memory card in a small Tupperware container just waiting for the price break.
Screw the PSX, I aint going to jump for it. EAT THAT SONY... Er... wait wernt we mad at Microsoft?
After doing some reading I am seeing a lot of the Thomson drive problems.
MS wanted 50 bucks? That's better then what Sony wanted out of me. Sony wanted me to ship it to them and possibly face a 135 or higher charge for fixing the unit.
That is if the unit was "fixable"
And it wasn't since the Graphics chip/board was friend, you cant get your pliers and fix that. So they would have charged 135 dollars or more for a "refurb unit of the same model class".
Why would I want to pay almost full price on a known-to-be-faulty system.
If Sony said they would charge me 50 bucks and it would be fine, I wouldn't be so mad.
Besides the Xbox is generally a computer, and I can fix those, the PS2 on the inside is like looking at a cheap gateway everything is soldered together and its just a mess. They cover everything in resin so it's hard to get anywhere in that damn PS2 box, much less take it apart, and buy a new part for it.
Playstation graphics are dated, all the games use the same crap engines they used from the PS. The only game to really show off the Ps2 Graphics is Ratchet and Clank. All the games just look the same. Role playing games are the PS2's only saving grace.
The PS/PS2 Controller is horrible when compared to Xbox\Cube
The Online Play is severely lacking compared to Xbox Live. Yeah, live costs money, but it beats waiting 20 minutes to find a decent socom server.
Let us not forget Sony Quality. As a owner of a "model 3001" unit, when it crapped out, I vowed not to buy another playstation 2. I plunked down 350 bucks for the damn thing about 4 months when it came out, and the thing is dead, D-E-A-D. The graphics chip fried on the board. Plus PS2 systems are still 179... for what? The PS2 is a legacy system, and it was from the Get-Go.
The Xbox and Cube are faster (seemingly) more capable hardware and better game support. The Game Cube is only 99 bucks! I mean DAMN its Nintendo, that means it's a tank. My Super Nintendo, N64, and Playstation still work fine, how come my PS2 cant?
The only reason I miss having a ps2 is because I didn't get to finish Socom2 before the damn thing died.
I will get one when they become like the PSone and sell for 50 bucks.
Till then F*ck Sony. I wont buy crap hardware, great way to reward consumers who initially bought your product.
And for the Xbox not being the same hardware quality as the ps2? What the hell are you smokeing? If my Xbox died, I would pay 179 for it again, at least the system does things that are worth the price, the PS2 does nothing to deserve 179 for it's sorry @$$.
The Cube has better graphics and play control then both oh them but only costs 99 bucks.. go figure.. ( i know, know ethernet, no hard drive) Metriod Prime kicks ass though.
Here's the deal, Gates is a business man and always was, and always will be. Get off the dude. We should just be happy that he made computer useable to the average person at their job so they can use a computer and give sys Admins like myself a job. (well I am still looking for one actually)
Its not really his problem. A lot of companies think they fix a problem by how much money the spend on it. Like a previous employer, I recommended a snort based IDS, but the Cisco one cost a crap load more money and worked with less functionality.
So, did the company go with the free better working alternative, or did a bunch of CCIE's Descend on my data center and install a Cisco shitbox...
Yup, there is now a Shitbox in the network rack of my previous employer against my recommendations.
Corporate giants have the money, (we the consumer don't) and neither do Universities or other educational places. Corporations are what fuels all computer and software growth. The money Dell makes from Corporate accounts is staggering and only 1.5% of their business is consumer and educational. (Don't ask me the source I heard it on the financial report of WGN Radio 720 here in Chicago).
Corp wants to spend money and get a grantee. You cant get that easily in Linux, Its easy as cake with Windows. And duplicating a windows Sys Part, Veritas, ArcServe, and Dantz do just fine. There is another over priced software that comes with a "guarantee".
Now Bill do something in Windows that will only accept Tech support from Americans!!! I am tired of people in India taking away my ability to pay the rent after I took a while and learned how to fix your products!!!!! I WANT TO EAT AND PAY MY RENT!!!!!!!!!!!!SOMEONE HIRE ME!!!!
Hey no joke about being without a job for months. After my Company Outsourced I cant find a Admin job out here for Crap. I live between two large cities of Champaign, IL and Terre Haute IN. One would think that I could find something, but nope Techies are holding on to their jobs for their life.
Like my Friend said who is a Comp Tech at a local school where he cant stand the work. "Hey I make 15 grand more then dudes on the assembly line, and I can sit down, I wont leave until this school closes down."
And that's how it is.
I am competing with 175 applicants for a Sys Admin job around here that opened up because the admin died of a heart attack.
Sad huh?
The only other job here that pays somewhat livable money is.............tech support call center..........
Hey I cant complain, I mean I busted my ass to get my education and my certification so I could be a sys admin, and my biggest problem is I might have to be a phone tech-support droid?
Well if that's the worst of my worries I got it pretty good. But I still hate being unemployed hoping to get a tech support job in a phone center.
I am an IT worker, I don't want fancy cars, or anything else.
I just want to have a decent roof over my wife and I's heads and two good cars (good) not hummers! not Mercury's, just something decent! And dog food for my beagle.
I can't work for a price lower then that of living, I mean most people I know like to eat once in a while!!
Yup, I am a little biased here, and I am a little pissed off as well.
I went to school, and Got a degree in applied Science majoring in computer and telecommunications. Not because people were saying "IT is HOT" or anything like that, but computers are the things I love, so I just followed what I was good at doing.
I finished top of my class, fought a bitter 4 month battle to get into an IT dept of a big company, and studied my but off every night to get my Certifications.
It took me a little over a year to get my Windows 2000 MCSE. Yeah, I know there are places churning paper MCSE's out by the 100's but I worked my ass off and did it without anyone's help, so I am going to be proud of it. I used to work from 7am-6:30pm come home and study till 2am and get to bed at 2:30 and sleep till 5:30 and repeat. (and not to mention being on call 24/7 while trying to study).
So now, I am two years out of school, Married, providing for my family and my new puppy with hopes to have a kid soon and get my family and life started.
My company lays me off because I cant work for as cheap as their tech support. I was laid off and three Germans actually came here. The company could pay for the housing and their wages and still hire three of them for one of me.
I only Made 22,000 a YEAR!!!!!!!!
So now what the hell am I going to do? I been unemployed for the last 6 months and there are no IT jobs within 70 miles of where I live. How many IT people along with me are probably going to be putting a Wal-Mart vest on!?
Grammar? Your nit picking about Grammar? This is Slashdot your lucky I am using whole words instead of talking to you in 1337 $p3@k,
Let me put this in a different way that MAC enabled person life yourself would understand.:-p
I doubt this, for anyone married to a person who ignores product flaws and takes them in-stride is truly an incompetent moron. Of This I would ask about your wife, did you marry her with giant obvious flaws? She must have had one, particularly a mental impairment to marry someone as yourself.
I tell you this, enjoy your iDUD, while you are at it, go enjoy your ilife. Go buy the software and hardware Mr. Jobs has so conveniently made for you so you can use your computer without thinking.
You my friend are an illiterate moron, and an uneducated one at that. I enjoy your babble of ignorance and high priced lunacy. My co-workers and I enjoy your posts immensely and look forward to more in the future. You do give me a refreshing breath of air, you awake the Entrepreneur in me to make over priced items with visible published flaws, but people will buy them because they look good. There would be little I could not accomplish with my high profit margins and your low IQ plus your funding. Wait a minute, I just exposed Apple's business plans.
Here is the deal dude, you keep buying products with flaws, they wont fix them because they still sell.
I will end this with a quote from a person who reminds me so much of you.
"That's all I have to say about that."
Now go get your box of chocolates, sit on the bench and wait for your bus with an iDUD in your pocket.
Facts Straight: Users complaining about bad batteries. Fact: Users complain about how hard it is to replace them. The facts are here that Apple should have done a better job with the batteries. I can change the batteries with my Sony MP3 player no problem. WHAT IS APPLE'S PROBLEM?
I do agree that Apple does make better things then dell but when it comes to something as small as batteries and price, get real. To consumers sometimes Apple's image is not appeasing to our pocketbooks. Unless you have more money then you do sense I would not pay $250 to $350 for an MP3 Player just because its an APPLE.
About two weeks ago, my husband has been going on and on about the new mini ipods that was rumored to be about $100 for 1 or 4GB. I was very excited and thought that this would be a great Valentines Day gift for him until I heard the news this afternoon that they will be $249.00. WHAT?!? $249.00 FOR JUST 2 TO 4GB. FORGET THAT! To me, it makes no sense to pay that high price for quality that low and you can buy the next model for $50 more. I heard of a MP3 player made by Dell that holds about 20GB for about the same price. If you are going to spend $300 GET YOUR MONEY'S WORTH AND GET THE 15GB OR GO TO DELL.COM AND GET THE 40GB. Yes, the dell is not an I-Pod but you get a great warranty that is not possible with the I-Pod and with dell you get longer battery life and better batteries.
Through the grape vine, I heard that the batteries for the i-pod last no more than a year and a half and then YOUR OUT AN I-POD. If Apple will bring down the price and improve the rechargeable battery life I would be sold. Until then, Apple is going to loose a lot of business and this is a waste of time and effort.
This was a big disappointment. First, Garage band?!?! It's just a watered down version of cake-walk or Acid. The Amp Models were disappointing.. I want a HiWatt or a VOX emulator.. not "British Invasion"!!! Besides High Gain amps like Marshalls are British as well... I find that just somewhat laughable.
The rest was all right. Apple Server *chuckle* okay moving on. I don't doubt it's a good box, I just don't know how I could justify one on the Purchase Req for new hardware. So good luck with that one Steve.
The Ipod!?!?! WTF!? I will not pay 250 bucks for it. I don't need all the capacity, my whole music collection is roughly about 2 gigs at that. So First 4 gigs is to much for me because I buy music roughly 1 CD every 6 months. ( I love the RADIO ) , and mostly AM at that. http://www.wgnradio.com (Shout out to Steve).
Sorry Steve, I am sticking to my Sony CD MP3 Player. Sure the Media is big, but its pretty tough (somewhat durable) and I can change the batteries (2100mah Ni-MH) are nice available at your local Wal-Mart plus its only 70 bucks or 110 bucks for the car set!
If you would have made this thing 1 gig or 2 gigs and priced it from 100-150 I would have been an instant customer......even if I knew the batteries will die in about a year and a half.
Sorry Steve, You excited me about as much as a very large walrus could.
Other then that, the web cast was very well done though!
Well my former employer should be okay, the last thing I did before they laid me off (with no warning) was implement SUS server in time for the second RPC vulnerability
By Wrapping this toilet I am not creating Mischief!!!
I am simply filtering the available light to the water through this filter known as ordinary clear-wrap. This is a science experiment I expect Class credit for this!
Boy, I wonder if that would have helped back then.
True, but its just phone stuff. Okay it text messages, but does it fairly well. I mean no cameras, or PDA's or anything like that.
Yes I know there are Nextel Black Berry's but I dont have that kind of money,
hell I dont have the money to replace my broken PS2.
Those two words are dead now.
Everything breaks in three years.
Or maybe I am just a jaded IT guy?
I swear everything breaks in three years.
Does it have a moving component, CD/DVD moving spindle? Hard Drive read+write head
= Dead in three years.
Nextels, I305, I205, I88.
simple (expensive) phones that one thing and do it well
Make calls.
It's really Easy,
