    As far as I know, the 'OS X hackers' are working on NeoOfficeJ. I don't actually like NeoOfficeJ though. It's old of date and quite buggy.

    the people who did The Open CD have packaged OpenOffice into an installer. Good idea but something the original team should do.

    I first used Ability office a good few years ago and I found it to be very fast and use less resources than the likes of MS Office. However I feel Ability has very strong competition from the likes of OpenOffice.org, which in my personal opinion is much better and "polished" although Ability's interface is a lot better for those brought up on MS Office.

    Don't Slashdot staff check out news before it's posted? The original submitter must really feel stupid now since the free (no-adware) codec is still available and right there on the page!
