Get a grip, folks. EVERTHING BillyG does is about lock-in. This DRM crap is a non-starter. Pure hype designed to make it look like they are "doing something" about security. 99% of the corporate world doesn't understand DRM, much less want it integrated into apps they can barely use as is. And even if they did suddently have it with the next upgrade, they would want it disabled faster than you can say talking paper clip.
I'm afraid it will take more than this to turn the tide away from the iron fist of MS Office.
Wow, ok. I guess my point was that instead of fighting a world that must franchise to survive, you can simply worry about your own choices.
I'm not sure what you plan on standing against, but send me a postcard when you get there. Who knows, maybe I'll be inspired and come and join you.
Remember 9-10 years ago when the good 'ole research-oriented Internet was first defiled by the masses? This article may have actually mattered then. Now, who bloody cares?
Yes, the amount of crap on the Internet is increasing but so what? Strip malls and outlet shopping are where farms used to be. And before that, there were those who lamented farms that replaced the wilderness.
If you don't like the strip malls, don't go there.
Wow, talk about your target marketing. Calling the network admin to bitch about unlicensed software "detected" on the premesis doesn't sound like a way to win happy customers. But you have to admit it's a way better opening line than most sales calls you get these days. Damn the customers, Jim, we're fighting software piracy here!

If they would just make a Matlock video game, my Grandma could benefit from this important new research.

Does .NET count? (ducks and hides)
