Now... putting aside the moral issues of downloading and reviewing the code, why not help Valve out? If you know how, review the code and look for flaws. Treat it like an open source project.
The bad people already have the code and they are already working hard to do bad things (cheats and exploits). We can't stop the code from spreading. However we CAN work against the jerks that take a potentially great product like HL2 and ruin it. Be a cheater yourself, only tell Valve how and give them suggestions for fixing it.
You feel that the only source of information in your life is the Internet, so you ask people on the Internet about it.:)
If it makes you feel better, I use the Internet as my primary source of information. Other forms of info seem too one-sided... I'm not talking conservative vs. liberal, but rather how it is dominated by rich people.
There are numerous sources on the Net that are run by a variety of people with different backgrounds. I prefer to make my decisions based on facts that I can read about rather than having my decisions made for me by the elite media, even if my conclusions are incorrect.
With all of the work the Indian ISPs will be doing over the next few years censoring Yahoo groups and whatnot, perhaps they will need to outsource their IT jobs to other countries like the United States?
All politicians are to blame, not just republicans. Can you really tell me that you believe there were no jobs shipped overseas or H1B's granted during the clinton presidency? Those guys only care about being elected and they know they can do it if they have enough cash, thus they cater to the CEOs and other rich people. The only difference between republicans and democrats is who they cater to in an effort to bring in the cash.
Meanwhile, I finally found a job I enjoy doing and my chances of continuing in this field seem to be reduced on a daily basis.
Why not make computing systems inefficient... that way companies would need to hire employees just to make the software work. For every Linux system that requires one or two system administrators, you could have an Acme setup with 10 servers that requires 20 system administrators. At least that's what I'm hoping for with a certain American software company...:)
Jane Doe used the Kazaa file-swapping software as a music player largely to listen to songs she had ripped from her own CDs and to music that came pre-loaded on her family computer.
Which makes the best music player; WinAmp, MusicMatch, or Kazaa... hmmm...
Not that I support the RIAA in any fashion, but come on.
And then there are 8 IT dudes running around unable to find a job and becoming a burden on society. Why don't we just dump computers alltogether and ship all of the computing tasks off to India?
Why do commercial games developers insist on re-inventing the wheel and making the same mistakes over and over?
Would Valve or ID have made names for themselves had they followed this advice?

Now people have to watch out for crazy elderly operators in stores and sidewalks. Just another weapon in the war on farmers' markets.
