I don't know about the rest of you, but I get plenty of emails that I have never agreed to receive, regardless of what the company says.
Could it be that if they are reporting it as spam that they don't want your emails?
It could be that the users are stupid, but in this day and age, given our spam problems, telling the company you don't want spam seems to only give a verification that you use that email address (thus you get more spam). So it could be that they are taking the easy route. They let some filter catch it.
Why is it when I hear 'This is a decisive victory for consumers, for innovation and for free markets.' come out of the mouths of large firms like AT&T, I begin to cringe?

Probably the same thing anyone from anywhere gets from watching sports. Do not other countries go overboard with football/soccer? Why should this be any different? Also, it is after all a single game championship match (unlike other sports that have a series of games to determine the winner).
Although, since I'm from Charlotte (hometown of the Panthers), I'm a bit biased on the situation.
