Because all too often fans act like religious fanatics over mediocre drivel, which makes it easier for execs to dismiss the outcry when a truly great show like Firefly gets canceled.
Who's to say what mediocre? I thought Firefly was mediocre drivel. So, apparently its fans are religious fanatics.
While others may make the case about other issues, I'll agree with jarich, the poster above. To bolster my/our argument, I'll quote a very famous economist
There is one and only one responsibility of business - to use its resources and engage in activities designed to increase its profits so long as it stays within the rules of the game.

Wouldn't it be better if Microsoft was to fix their bloody insecure software instead??
Better for who?
Better for you, yes. Better for MSoft? No.
Micros~1 already has their monopoly, they don't really have an overwhelming need to fix their own stuff. They see Norton and McAfee making money doing this, so they figure they can do the same.
Who does it pay for though? My buddy who runs a network of XP machines likes microsoft to the extent of job security. After all, if everything ran the way we wanted it to, where would many of us work?
I thought Rule #1 was to first establish what requirements needed to be met to actually say "its done" to prevent exactly what's happened to this guy.
That way there is no argument over any money issues or finished product. If its meets a list of requirements, you get the software, they get paid, if it doesn't, they don't get paid, but I guess you don't get a product either.
Not to worry! Its Blizzard! They will change EVERYTHING in the first point release. Then change everything AGAIN in the next. Then they will promise the next release for 2 years, and change everything AGAIN!
What?! You weren't there for all that thru Diablo 2?
Costs less to produce. But that in no way translates into direct savings for the consumers. I would expect the companies to pocket the difference, until the next gen of TVs after this comes out. They'll most likely charge as much as they can.
Sony is a damn frustrating company. If they just adopted and backed a new standard instead of always trying to monopolize, we would have standards adopted significantly faster.
I think you missed the part where Sony doesn't really care... They are after profit after all. Not standards being adopted faster.
The Solution is simple. Don't use a cell phone unless its someone else paying the bills. I used one for a few years. Switched a few times and got so pissed off at phone companies in general, I just don't bother with them anymore. I have local service, and that's it. I'm guessing my phone bills per month are an 1/8th of everyone elses. Use the money for something useful, like buying bleach to wash my eyes.
While I agree with what you said, the fact remains that students that get degrees from colleges with (successful) sports programs get jobs easier than those elsewhere, even when those colleges with no/little sports have students that test higher. So, as a school trying to help its graduates, having some sports makes sense to help your graduates compete.
(please don't go listing MIT or Harvard as not having great sports programs and get their grads placed well, I'm talking on average)
The big issue with a flat tax regressive tax. By this, I mean its easier for rich folk to pay X% of their income than the poor folk. $10,000 is a lot of money to a lot of people, but Bill Gates sneezes and looses $10,000 and he doesn't care.
It sounds good, but it hurts more people than it helps.
C'mon now... what you talked about is clearly stealing. Its just not appropriate that the companies claim X amount of dollars were lost when they never would have gotten it in the first place.
This will be interesting to see what Micros~1 does against this. Microsoft is big, but I do think Walmart might be bigger in terms of value. Not sure about who lobbies the most.

Where they get you is on the use tax.

It still unclear what motivated this 43-year-old to launch such a bizarre worm.
Probably because it is somewhat funny?
Granted, it may take away resources from people that are actually in need, but it still is a bit funny.
And when was it a requirement that motivation be logical?
No screenshots? Someone please post a dupe-story when the screens are up. Thanks in advance ;)

It pays to get with the times!

At least its Gates in the picture, and not Balmer. I'm afraid of what he'd be doing ( ... more monkey dancing?)

it's friday, cut me some slack :D
No slack will be cut because its THURSDAY!
I wonder what actors they would get for this one? I mean John Candy has passed away, but everyone else is available... right?

Informative? This was my sad attempt to be funny... why would this be modded Informative?
FFII has complete coverage of what is going on in Europe
Who else read that as Final Fantasy 2 has complete coverage of what is going on in Europe

moving to a flat tax

it's clearly not stealing
C'mon now... what you talked about is clearly stealing. Its just not appropriate that the companies claim X amount of dollars were lost when they never would have gotten it in the first place.
But you know its still stealing.

It is illegal, deal with it.
Maybe when the vast majority of companies start obeying the laws, I might consider it. When they do as they please, I'll do as I please...
