I don't see the RutanGang as a model to follow. Sure, there is a lot of bravado and ingenuity but I really don't think you can compare the product against what Nasa has accomplished.

What Nasa is now saying is basically that politics have intervened with science and technology at a great cost. The ISS is in the wrong spot and is not suited to the tasks at hand. However, it does provide a number of usefull lessons and shows us that StarTrek style space exploration should remain in hollywood. Long term habitation in space is a stupid thing to do and now that we have learned that, we should concentrate on the rock we live on, send robots out to space.

Well there are some aspects of KDE which are not possible under OSX without significant tweaks or non-free software. For example, the browser, Konqueror will go everywhere, even below the "unseen line" of OSX and yes, you can tweak finder to go there to but not without non-free software and even then, you'r stuck with finder's interface.

You can have a variety of io-slaves under KDE allowing great integration with a variety of network services, yes we can do alot of that with OSX but again, interface and third party add-ons... (webdav over ssl???)

Furthermore, KDE is a development environment in itself and many developers will be happy to see that they can work two in one!

I am impressed that it works, I have tried many times to get Fink and the gang working with Tiger and I have borked on each and every occasion. So reading the australian exploits with expectation!!

Indeed, but what is interesting is that this may cause some challenges to *nix-windows interoperability. Many installed linux servers will have been using the "older" encryption bases for domain logons and samba shares. These are not unovercomeable but may prove to be challenging on the implementation side.

My pitch at the schpiel is that hearing may not be damaged but that lengthy isolation in your iPod may have a correlation to some form of Aspergers or in any event introvertness and perhaps iPodders ain't deaf, they simply ignore the outside world subconsciously!
