Perhaps I should have named the poster above directly instead of being reliant on reader comprehension. Thanks, you've made me aware of the baseline I should be aiming for.
with ZFS it would be possible to migrate to FreeBSD if Linux does jump the shark
Less contraversally it's convenient to have it not only controller agnostic but also OS agnostic. I've connected up a pool created on linux to a FreeBSD box and it just works because it's designed to work in that situation.
Another thing - not having to wait for "fsck" to finish on large volumes when they come up again after a lot of uptime. File system checks are done on live filesystems, it's called "scubbing" on ZFS.
It's a very nice way of dealing with disk arrays with snapshotting and a pile of other features that are not so easy to get via other means. One feature is that it is trivially easy to copy entire filesystems to other machines and just as easy to add incremental updates. Another is not having to rely on having the same brand of RAID controller if you want to get the disks to work on different hardware, any SATA (or SAS for those disks) controller/s will do. A desktop PC with slots full of SATA cards of any brand could get you up and running when a file server dies.
No ZFS's thing is snapshots. Once you create a ZFS disk pool I could find no way to add a disk to it to make it bigger.
Add two disks or more:) Don't think in disks, look up "vdev".
There are a few things to watch out for in linux ZFS for the moment until it catches up. The most important is to label your disks because unlike on solaris, bsd etc if they end up in a different hardware order they will drop out of the pool otherwise.
Practical solar- electric has been "just around the corner" for 55 years
If you live just around the corner from where satellites are built then yes, it has had practical purposes for that long.
I find it funny the the joke to mock solar when this site was started was solar lights, but I've now got some that I bought for $1 each from the local supermarket.
Those windmills are not actually evil giants you know so charging them has been silly enough to write about for a very long time.
Yes but an adequate science education has the twin benefits of sowing the seeds for being able to progress and being able to detect con-artists who try to take money for things that still remain impossible.
Wireless power with sound waves and peizo-electric crystals - fair enough at the milliwatt range but jet engine noise is still not loud enough for what they claim.
If you cannot, I will accept your admission of defeat on this matter
WTF? Are you playing some stupid game here with rules that make you look like an idiot, such as playing "devil's advocate" to take a side you know is utter bullshit? That would explain the idiocy, since I keep thinking you cannot possibly be as dense as you appear to be.
You keep making such claims, yet fail to substantiate *ANY* of it
If you had paid attention in high school I would not need to would I?
In short - people who are in charge of things tend to hear things about those those things (such as the National Guard etc) - I've got no idea why you are in denial of the obvious over what is really a side issue anyway.
Look up the Pfizer stuff - Hillary's email stuffup looks as trivial as Palin's in comparison to a real scandal.
Sorry to nitpick but instead of "research" they have listened to batshit insane bullshit from narcisists in an echo chamber. "Research" would be something more like asking grandpa about polio at the bare minimum.
Take a look at HR folk stalking employees on Facebook for a similar example of pointless busywork. Sometime you need HR and sometimes you need CPS, but if either start looking for something to do and have a lot of power to abuse then there can be trouble.
Catweazle was released in 1970. Not many people were vaccinated for measles and mumps back then. Every year you'd hear about a local kid or baby that died or had lifelong complications from one or the other.
Then how about we have a more serious one instead of pointless nitpicking that ignores more serious issues.
Also, you calling bullshit on the irrelevant side issue ignores that the there are military based in Alaska and some of them are even under the direct control of the governor of Alaska - where did you put your brain today?
Sorry I didn't realise we had to speculate about the worst possible case
We are discussing a real case and not speculating about a trivial fancy dress party - please do try to keep up.
you know, the actual facts
The actual fact that it was a fancy dress party? Really? What a pointless mass debator. Perhaps you should mass debate on your own instead of soiling this site.
Or do you consider every fancy dress party as the equivalent of international espionage?
If police or spooks are using it as a cover for an operation the answer is obvious. Please try to keep track of context and please try to be less ridiculous. I come here for information not pointless mass debating.

The obvious reason would be for a file server. Other situations are not so obvious, but as for minor - unlikely.

I would much prefer not to be worthy of the time you are spending playing such petty little games at my expense.

Reality disconnect detected :(
It just means he's crap at public speaking etc and comes across that way. A surgeon not an actor.

What are your views on food safety and seatbelts out of curiousity?
Vaccination is just one of many things that a government mandates.
Catweazle was released in 1970. Not many people were vaccinated for measles and mumps back then. Every year you'd hear about a local kid or baby that died or had lifelong complications from one or the other.
News just in - insurance companies are run by absolute pricks. Believe the doctors instead of waiting for an insurance company to be honest.
Better solution - make them sit for hours while listening to people who remember seeing friends catch polio.
Then how about we have a more serious one instead of pointless nitpicking that ignores more serious issues.

You've got a low enough ID to remember otherwise.
Just give up loser - you are doing nothing but adding noise.

As an example, can you imagine the reaction in 1999 if airport security was squeezing the balls of passengers?
