Interesting attempt at making the powermac's inability to step down in speed while on batteries seem like a feature though. Bravo. ;-) Buzzzz, rather a powerbook (I am writing this on a 12" 1ghz DVI) now has three options while on battery and those are: Higest- runs at full speed Reduced- runs at a reduced speed Automatic- the processor changes speed depending on required performance at the time. If you need full power, you get it, if not, it reduces to save energy. I get about 4h30m of battery life on my powerbook with the screen dimmed and on the "automatic" setting. If I keep it on the automatic, but just use the machine for writing with the screen really dimmed (backlight still on though) I can get about 5h10m. This is quite impossible on a PC machine, and there is the fact that I can "put the powerbook to sleep" at 100% and "wake it up" eight hours later having only drained down to ~93%.

    > Mac has more kids games than adult games. Does not even sound like a mac user, because one should word this, "the mac has more games..." an to that note, there are many "adult" games available for the macintosh. Most great games are released for the mac though some games which undoubtably such are never ported. > I would probably go with an emac, they can take more of a beating than the imacs, and kids can be rough on computers. Agreed. The emac will take quite a beating especially if your kids like to touch the screen as it is the only CRT based mac there is. (Yes, you could use a CRT with a powermac, but you see my point) If you can tell your kids not to touch the screen, then the imac might appeal since it is in one word "cool." TO ALL THOSE TROLLS: -No the macintosh does not suck, it provides a much better and more intuitive user environment. One who gracefully uses windows does not know how much they are being taken by a company that steals software and ideas from small (shareware) companies, as they can not pay for an attorney, microsoft gets away with this and calls it "innovation." IE does not even have tabbed browsing! Using linux on a PC is fine by me and I do it myself, but using windows is quite literally being taken for a ride. You owe it to yourself to check out a mac. And no, you do not need to buy from the apple store or apple themselves as often you can get them cheaper and with extra items like memory for free and without tax. Refurbs (unopened returned basically new items) are a great way to save 15% too as well as up to 15% for being in education (student/teacher or otherwise) or goverment as well.

They can write a book full of laws regarding the illegal usage of one's digital multimedia, but untill some incentive is offered for one not to do things illegally, it will run rampad. As such, I think that the majority in the UK could care less about this. Just think about it, were you on irc today, did you download mp3s of songs you do not own, did you copy a friend's cd, did you even make a full stop at a stop sign while drving or do a rolling stop? If we got penalized for every little things that humans do wrong, the only jobs would be working at a prison, on either side of the bars! I am quite sure that not many even care, and so the companies having their product used illegally need to provide some sort of incentive for those not to copy things and rather buy them..though this is not likely to happen any time soon...

It seems to me that microsoft might only be releasing this as just another piece of software for the MacOS, unless of course, they will be using it as part of a music store like the itunes version, just crappy and with a bad file type. We all know how that would go over within the mac community. It also does not seem like they would be releasing this to steal the thunder from another product's new release, so here is the question...WHY BOTHER? Quicktime already exists, and there are many other better file codecs and ecoders for that matter out there than the .wma junk...

Then comes the matter of payment, and what if one just wants to send a quick email and it is not their computer and they have not an account online. Also, different mailing lists would suffer or at least be royally screwed as most are free and that is their advantage, and as such, they would lose that advantage. ...and then there is the issue of the RIAA and those that have opinions in agreeance with them that say that one might be "stealing" music as this implies that one is taking property from someone else, where the someone else does not have the property any longer. As we all should know, this is not true as computers and files contained therein have the abilty to be copied. The RIAA seems to be putting the act of copying music off as one would a DNS attack, that being that the RIAA seems to think that "stealers" (person who steals) are preventing the use of goods or services to be used by others than oneself, as in the case of a DNS attack (in this case a webisite.) I would hope that they come to their senses and realize that the sharing of mp3s probably has much less effect on cd sales than they currently believe as I am sure everyone has bought a cd or two (or online from the itunes music store or the like...GO APPLE!) just because of the fact that they heard or got a copy of an mp3 of the same song or a song contained on the cd. Change is definately needed, and unfortunely, the RIAA is heading in the wrong direction.

You DON"T need a patch with a macintosh as there are none. You can update the system software usually with new versions every other month or so, but this can be done automatically as well. FYI, there have not been ANY viruses for the macintosh in the two and a haf years that OS X has been around and with remote login for the classic mac os turned off, it IS impervious to anything...note the US Armed Forces using this on some servers. Do not even make someone count the amount of viruses for windows in the last two-and-a-half years though I believe it to be around 500!

I am using two older macs (1998 Powerbook wallstreet G3 300mhz, and overclocked 1999 Powermac blue & white @ with 400mhz G3 and mind you, I do not play many games other than the occasional quake III) that both still provide very adaquate performance! I will be looking into a 12" or 15" powerbook for school next year and those G5s look appetizing but overall, as you can undoubtably see, macs hold value MUCH better than their PC counterparts. If michigan were to buy PCs and run linux on them, it might make the cost about even, however, this I doubt with Bill Gates around...
