I found each of your exact complaints within a few minutes as well. It is quite ugly a default theme, and I'm irked by Ctrl-Y (which involves both hands or a long stretch); at least Ctrl-E was a one-hander.
I think the default theme in 0.8 was much friendlier. My old man was able to understand it immediately! Let's keep the nice, clean stuff to help evangelize the masses.
I've read some great points, and one question keeps coming back to me:
Instead of ranting here in the forum, why aren't you writing your Reps and Senators?
Okay, it doesn't solve the world's problems, but these folks are there to work for us, right? Even my hamfisted and inelegant summary of the VeriSlime doings could make a difference, if some staffer sees patent political gains. Try it - activism!
Question: can Canadians avoid this levy by importing American blank media? Or from other countries? Or would they need to sneak across the border for blank CDs like we do for prescription medication?
Perfect pitch is not genetic; such a statement implies that the ability to remember anything is. It's a learnable skill - ask any of my former 4th graders whose task was to identify random pitches after a few months of daily pitch work. With no reference notes, the group scored along a handy bell curve. So... I have half a class of genetic freaks, or perhaps... what? Repetition and assigning "colors" to pitch names seems to work well enough. Kids also have stronger skills in this department than adults (q.f. JRME). Any other music teachers out there had success in this regard (there's a small industry pushing "perfect pitch secrets" in music publications, by the way)?
