It's not $25/TB, as the article says. One must also consider the cost of the drives in relation to the amount of info which needs to be stored.
I've got between 1 and 2 TB which is important to backup. If I could pay $50 per backup, it would be great. But, it's more like $2500 + $25/TB. For what I need, a $125 2 TB hard drive or two is cheaper and faster (and probably more reliable, too).
So, the middle schooler had an idea, built it, then collected data. MIT modeled theirs first to predict behavior before building it. Meh. "Systematic and predictive analysis," that's just obfuscatory-speak.
"a we-drive-on-the-left-side-of-the-road-because-our-ancestors-used-to-wield-swords-in-their-right-hands-while-horseriding country"
I suppose that makes sense if you're the aggressor, and want to slash at every rider who comes your way. If you're a defensive rider, you'd want to ride on the right, to make it more difficult for the oncoming rider to attack.
(Is that really the reason given? I thought it was because you just wanted to be sinister instead of dominant)
Only if they also don't know that you can get a full featured stand-alone navigational GPS, with free lifetime map updates, for under $100 (under $50, if they watch for sales), instead of paying $2000 to the auto manufacturer. But, such a person would obviously be pretty ignorant, and probably shouldn't be driving.
"Taking a long time to charge means that it must have a really big freaking battery."
What it really means is that Apple has hit the limit for the amount of current they can put through their proprietary connector. They've already exceeded the spec for what's allowed through the USB end of their cables. A lithium based battery should be able to be fully charged within 2 hours, absent such external constraints.
Who wants to pay for a built in GPS? Just use what's on your smartphone, or buy a stand alone unit. Either is cheaper, both in initial cost and to keep up to date, than one provided by an auto manufacturer. And, the NHTSA has nothing to say about it.
Method and application for use of unique properties of the Higg's bosun to mitigate fictitious centrifugal forces on the surface of a rotating spheroid. Also claimed, said method applied to Internet, mobile, and commercial uses.
Then we can't let them eat the cake.
"Noone is a patent troll."
He's not a troll, he's a Herman's Hermit.
Bullshit. A student doesn't need a computer to learn about anything except, well, computers.
After all, $12 million is less than they will be paying the lawyers.
"It seems odd that primary schools in at least the U.S. don't use technology to communicate with students much."
It's as if language isn't a basic technology, and teachers don't talk to students. Go figure!

BINGO!

We'll see.

So, MIT has basically recreated what a 7th grader has previously done.
Robes are just togas. All hail Caesar!
"clubs and farm tools. Those are two-handed, and as such they are not very dependent on the strong hand."
Which is, of course, why all right handed baseball players can switch-hit.
If you're going to make stuff up, at least make it believable.
"Offense is the best defense."
Trite, although inaccurate.
"But however you put it, an aggressor can always ride by you and then turn 90 degrees and slash you"
Your argument is based on reaction time, not position (what's 90 degrees have to do with anything - both side are on an equal basis?).
"robbers are free to stick sharp metal into you "
Because all robbers are left handed, and therefore have an advantage over a mounted rider with a sword?
Einstein didn't drive, and married his cousin.

Natural gas coming from the ancient buried forests on Mars? Maybe we should drill for oil there!
"Because it is literally imposible for someone to engineer an audio-only alert system for GPS units"
They're called BSDs (back seat drivers). You probably have one in your family.

"Sécurité, égalité, fraternité" has the same ring to it...
Do you jail citizens who regularly visit violence promoting sites like this one?
"how will the price be determined?"
From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.

"EFI with GPT does solve the problem once and for all"
Well, no, not really.
GPT allows for a maximum disk and partition size of 9.4 zettabytes.
After all, 9.4 zettabytes should be enough for anyone.
