I've driven I-10 in Houston and I agree. I also lived in Atlanta for over 10 years and both cities have the same problem with "slow [moving] road bumps." Why can't the police enforce "slower traffic keep right" or "keep right except to pass" laws? I recently drove the PA Turnpike, which is mostly 2 lanes each direction, but is peppered with Keep Right signs. It was so much easier to drive across that state than it was to drive the +4 lane I-75/I-85 highways around Atlanta.

I hear you, and I've been there. I started going to the gym with a coworker before work in the morning. I looked around the weight training area and saw a lot of the men and women you mention. I also saw some senior adults there too, so there was quite a mix. Everyone was into doing their own workouts and the hard core guys never did or said anything to make me self conscious. After a few weeks of seeing me there, I even got a few encouraging comments from some of them about how I was improving. I found out the general feeling is that as long as you're in the gym doing something, then good for you. And if you're there doing it regularly, you get some level of respect from the hard core folks because you're committed to improving yourself. Before I moved off of the project that had me in that town, I had lost 40 pounds, reduced my waist by 4 inches, and added enough muscle mass to improve my posture.

Why, right now there could be huge numbers of terrorists in heavy equipment training classes, just planning and waiting for the opportunity to dig up phone, internet, power, water, and gas lines throughout the USA. And without any of the things supplied by those lines, just think of what would happen to the children. You may now commence with the hysteria. Alert the press.

Bad math at work. By the scale listed, an M9 would be four times more powerful than an M5, so there is no way an X2 is four times more powerful than an M5. An X2 should be 7 times more powerful than an M5. (M6-M7-M8-M9-X-X1-X2)

Soldiers Take Advantage Of Free Phone Service From Vonage

    December 29, 2004

    By Staff

More than 200,000 phone calls were made in 2004 by U.S. soldiers in Iraq to loved ones back home, thanks to the free phone service provided by Vonage Holdings Corp., a provider of broadband phone service.

Vonage plans to continue this program throughout 2005.

"Vonage has noticed an increase in calls during the holiday season and is glad we have been able to give our troops the ability to call their families to say happy holidays and tell them how much they are missed and wish them a great New Year," stated Jeffrey A. Citron, chairman and CEO of Vonage Holdings Corp.

"We recognize the sacrifices the men and women of the United States Armed Forces are making in Iraq and Afghanistan, and although we cannot do anything to get them back to their families any faster, we are doing our best to use our service to help make the loneliness of their deployment a little more bearable."

I tried iListen when my wife was having difficulty typing. I ran through the training and played with it a bit to get familiar with it prior to having her use it. The accuracy rate was very high for me.

Then she tried to use it. Even the training procedure was difficult for her. She grew up in the midwest and had no discernable accent, so that wasn't the problem. Near as I could determine, she didn't always have the same inflection when saying many words. Without the consistency of pronunciation, the software couldn't learn correctly. She became very frustrated, which led to her over-enunciating the word in question, which just confused the software even more. It became shelfware.

I dragged it out a month ago and started using it again. I've gotta say, the response time on a Dual-G5 is pretty impressive. And for the smartasses out there; no, I'm not using it for this post, I'm at work. Isn't that where everyone reads slashdot?

So, by going open source, that relieves some of the load on internal developers. I suppose it could also be argued that now Ingres will be improved without CA having to pay for more programmers.
