INTEL - are you there ? Please go buy off this pesky little companies. Or at least try to claim that they stole your patented code and sue the hell out of them. This is called business vision now a days...
Meanwhile china is sending people out in space and india is building ICBMs....
Pakistan protested that this is a "scheme" for Indian Govt. to put down Pakistan...
And tomorrow they will arrange "three" hits to counter india's "two" hits.

Kill me if you like but Ethernet is NOT the right kind of media for this. Ethernet does not have "guranteed latency". It is not a real time thing--rather best effort thing.
I will be happy to run this over a "fixed" latency media but not even think about doing it over ethernet.
One of the reason I like firewire... but I guess this is an apple thing and INTEL will do anything to kill it in the future or come up with other crap like USB.
This is very interesting and I am following the story for last few weeks.
I never realized that so many sites could be / would be affected and will join the protest against this.
I would not have been aware of this unless there is this thing called INTERENET and EU people contributed a major portion of GPL Software.
If this works out, then, it will show that the "Europe" is still probably the place where people have the voice and can make a difference.
Balance of power between state and people is getting one sided in US--unfortunately. Before the IRAQ war more than 40% of the people in US actually thought that there is a connection between IRAQ/WMD/Terrorist etc. etc. Govt. is too strong compared to the people at this point to pull this and still stay in power.
(I supported the war anyway--this type of dictators need beating--well so is Pakistan/North Korea but that's another story).
So, congratulations EU people--you did well.
P.S.
Probably does not make much sense here, but, If you just happen to visit a bookstore, pick up the last issue of Foreign Policy... read and get depressed.
Great !
I am so happy to see that there are some real programmers exist who see the truth. I have seen our Sun E3500 with 8 CPUs felt like a pentium pro with java shit running on it.
But it was management's vision... what we can do. I just procured the servers and pretended that I am doing social work by giving Sun more money.
In a major financial market data vendor. I am no longer working with them.
It took me about five years to migrate most of the items.
BTW, I am seasoned Unix person--whether it is linux today or finux tomorrow. I could have had done it either way.
My motivation was
1. Sun was keeping us hostage.
2. Sun lied about memory failure problem--Enterprise Level--you NEVER lie.
3. IBM did a convincing presentation and they stood behind it.
4. INTEL was getting much faster CPUs than Sun
5. And there is something call Linux came into being which works
6. Our VP was behind this--not the stupid middle managers. He gave me the green light.
It was interesting and I believe very few people we have in this community who has gone through a planning to execution of Linux migration on the core business activity in Financial industry.
It was good the only a few of us actually knew what was going on--rest of them just bugged us in the meetings... but it was pain.
In the level of effort,
Technology = 10%
Planning = 40%
Dealing with stupid people who is neither technical nor financial = 50%

Answer to that is YES. I would sure consder giving her a call. Question is HOW MANY those kind of people you have personally seen compared to the VB/JAVA Gurus ?
Remember if you have too many bad hits one after another and there is pattern that most of them claimed and spoke Java, people start to co-relate the skill set with brain matter ! TOTALLY wrong thing to do--I admit but that is why are are human.
However, if you find a person who is "language neutral" most of the time she is the real programmer.

I checked on Java on it's early days when Sun had Engineers. Henry Wong I think was ( about 5/6 yrs back, don't actually remember who else was there) conducting the seminars.
Sun had a great promise. But, it is still a promise. I have seen so much bullshit around that language and half-progrmmers posing as object Gurus etc. etc. made me really sick.
Saga continued, DOT.COM made our company rich but Java made us poor.
We blew over 5 mil behind a product with good and bad programmers but still that product did to gain any ground. The we added some good marketing people ( yes they exist ) with lot of effort they made it barely sellable.
If Sun were spending half as much energy behind the hardware division their stock will not be in single digits today !
Now-a-days, when I go through resumes of new/experienced programmer, knowing Java AND not knowing C or PERL is a disqualification to me--these people will never get through the door.
There is no such thing as Java Programmer--either you are programer and program whatever language come in your way or you are just a total waste of space.
So, I guess, end of Java will end of lot of stupid people who should not have in the programming profession in the first place.
whatever.... at lease by following this principle, I am having success in recruiting good programmers !
