    How much space does a 300MW solar plant take up? now how much room does one need for a 300MW nuclear plant? how much power could be produced in the same area as the 300MW solar plant if it was filled with nuclear power plants?

    There really shouldn't be much waste from a nuclear plant, but the US has a ban on re-breeding. The modern reactor designs also have much less waste than our dumb 1950's and 1970's designs. Also the cost of insurance for a Nuke is way out of proportion with the actual dangers.

    never said Europe was perfect, but simply that perhaps we could/should have learned something from them. And every time I see a major highway project not account for additional traffic i cringe, knowing i'll be paying for it to be fixed later.

    That works too, as long as you do that with enough time. AFAIK the red+yellow it to let the drivers know the cars need to go back in gear(most cars in Europe were manual transmissions last i was there.)

    lets see, cost of 1 tbone, 2 cars, driver of the tboned car's medical bills, any lost productivity due to injury or death.
    Cost of a rear end, 2 cars repair bills(easily the cost of a car with modern cars), medical bills for the whiplash of the hit driver, lost productivity due to injury/death.

    Hmm seems to have a similar cost, just that one might have a higher death rate. On a side note, are your yellow times long enough to account for all legal driving conditions? legal min tread tires, just legal brakes, .07 BAC(or .09 depending on your state), and 2" of freezing rain followed by 2 feet of fresh snow at the speed limit? if not, your yellows need to be longer or you need to install a "count down to yellow" counter, to warn drivers of when the light will be red/yellow.

    depending on the state, the owner of the car is still liable, unless the car is reported stolen. In other states it is the driver of the car at the time. Your car, your responsibility to ensure it acts correctly.

    or working out the tranist network to limit the number of lights you need to go though, by planing major to minor routes. This require forethought, and spending more now to spend a lot less later. Another thing us Yanks are confused by, generally.

    great, so then i can get a replacement disk, or download it on the internets, or .. or ... as long as i bought a bluray copy right? I mean it is the highest quality copy around, and I did just by a license to "view, listen, and otherwise enjoy" Cars(tm) in some ways I would rather buy a 1 time forever in all formats license to movies/music/etc at ${QUALITYLEVEL} or lower. Would make me format shifting 100% legal, and downloading it(if i have proof of purchase(say a retail copy) legal.

    links to linux dvd players that are in the same price range($0) as mplayer, and vlc, or "reasonable and non-discriminatory" isn't in effect. IMO.

    range, oven, dryer, water heater, heater, are all natural gas here. So it shouldn't be that much of a load, also if you charging station is smart enough to know to wait until 11pm to start charging, or has some other means of slow charging something all day/night and using that to rapidly charge your car when you get home, it shouldn't really be an issue.

    how about looking at it as a problem with the grid and not with the loads on it. Making the grid more flexible has other benefits as well. It makes it more fault tolerant(see east coast blackout). You do understand that there are but a few, super high voltage to high voltage switching stations in the country? did you also know that they are protected by a simple fence and a master lock? So yes the grid needs to be more tolerant.

    yep, thats under the assumption though the bad guys need the good guys to tell them the holes. But even so, if win7 can be killed by a packet on port X, It's simple for the users to mitigate upstream by blocking port X at the firewall(you do have a separate one right?)

    If there is no way to mitigate it outside of a vendor patch, let the vendor know first, and tell them they have say 2 weeks to be making progress...

    Also this all reinforces my belief that commercial software development needs to work like engineering, you are liable for the problems your software causes and cannot be sold "As-is, and without warranty".

    lets see, time to patch any major portion of GNU/linux, probably less than 2 weeks. thats from bug report to update in distros repos. If OSS can do it with free labor in 2 weeks, paid for devs should be able to do it in less, say half, 1 week. I know my apple keyboard wasn't fully supported when i bought it, less than a week later there was a patch applied to mainline stable kernels that corrected the issue. and that was just for some of the FN keys not working as advertised. So a month max sounds good. I would note that without things progressing in a month i feel bound to release this info so that admins may take steps to mitigate the issue.

    good climate? well maybe in Norway. most of Europe doesn't get or stay cold enough for me. If it gets much above 26C, i'm starting to hate it, i'd rather it stay no warmer than say 20C. So Norway it is.

    Otherwise I agree with you. but 40C is right out of the question.

    if you read his comments, he is prepared to pay the speeding ticket and or loose his license. He's not trying to contest the speeding ticket and such, just the home invasion/detention/case with a 16 year prison sentence.

    the motorcyclist has never contested the speeding or the reckless charges, simply the home invasion and detention for 26 hours and now the on going suit with a max jail time of 16 years.

    Still his badge should have been in his hand(the one without the gun, as he was out of uniform) and visible I had to have it pointed out to me that the guy in the car even had one(on his belt half under his shirt).

    The helmet cam was clearly visible, and there wasn't an order in the provided footage of an order to turn it off or disable it. http://carlosmiller.com/2010/04/16/maryland-motorcyclist-spends-26-hours-in-jail-on-wiretapping-charge-for-filming-cop-with-gun/ has a picture of the guys setup, it looks like a point and shoot camera on top of a helmet. That was definitely public space, where anyone could be recorded. I'm sorry but until he says "state police" and shows a badge or is in uniform he's acting as citizen. If you can find the additional footage it shows a unformed officer showing up at the scene as well. All of the search and arrest for 26 hours, and now the trial are simply uncalled for. public space == public space.

    laptop == SSD
    desktop that sits on my desk going though only the most minor of vibrations == HDD.

    Things like software compiles, installs, and copies(gentoo's emerge) i hear will wreak havoc on the wear leveling of a drive. things like /tmp as well. So while i think i'd like my next laptop to have a SSD, I'm not convinced my desktop will, maybe I do something like unionfs my ssd and a hdd partition for /, and make the rest of the hdd /home & /storage.
