    There is a disclaimer about how many years you get Windows updates for, and Windows updates includes Internet Explorer as it is supposed to be an integral part of the operating system.

    Sure but if any of these other word processers want to do custom xml editing, they are hit by this patent as well.

    As and example, companies in the UK are now required to file their accounts with HM Revenue and Customs in ixbrl format. Being able to enter the required xml tags to do this in word or one of its competitors could be very useful.

    Online poker and other forms of online gambling are illegal in the US. The money laundering and bank fraud offences relate to collecting the gambling stakes from punters wishing to play the games.

    Virgin Trains is not high speed. If High Speed 2 ever gets finished, then it will be 2h 30m from London to Glasgow. It will still be quicker for you to fly because you are so close to Heathrow, but for most people, it will make rail quicker than flying. I can drive up there in 7 hours including stoppage time if I pick the right times of day to avoid rush hour in Birmingham, Manchester/Liverpool area and Glasgow and that's what I usually do. 2 tanks of diesel is much cheaper than any form of public transport, even at £1.40 per litre.

    By train: 1h to London St Pancras, 30m check in time, 2h 15m to Paris Gare du Nord, total time, 3h 45m
    By air: 45m bus journey to Heathrow, 2h check in time, 30m taxi to runway, 1h flying time, 30m taxi off runway, 30m baggage reclaim, 25m on RER to Gare du Nord, total time 5h 40m

    The problem is that any non-technical user is going ask what buttons they need to press to get the website to work, and will then press them blindly no matter what.

    In England there is a separate Patent Court for patent and copyright issues. The judgement in the ACS:Law cases makes good reading, the judge in the Patent County Court hearing that case very clearly understands these things.

    Yes. Google have only finished the tablet bit of it, and it doesn't work well on 3"-4" screen phones.

    You can still install Apps from alternative app stores, or copy them in via an SD card; and the fact you can put an SD card in the phone is a good reason in itself.

    I think this is a problem with the ARM architecture rather than with Android. To update the OS, you need to flash the ROM, and you need to flash the entire ROM in one go, not just replace a few files on the hard drive like you do on intel based machines.

    Depends which market you look at. It certainly isn't mainstream in the desktop market, that is for sure, but in the embedded market, such as TVs, wifi routers, network hard drives and so on, linux has quite a high market share. Also in the server market, apart from the niche sectors occupied by Small Business Server, Exchange and Sharepoint, linux is pretty strong. In the high performance computing market, there is very little else apart from linux.

    The problem is firstly that the app probably wasn't advertised as being a "pirated" copy, and secondly, if it was placed there by the copyright owner, the legal fact of the matter is that it is not "pirated".

    Petrol and diesel powered cars had not yet been invented 100 years ago, whereas electric cars had been in existence for 83 years at that point. This isn't the new fangled emerging technology a lot of people think it is. It was invented 183 years ago and is now obsolete.

    You can buy iTunes gift cards for cash. They don't sell mp3s of course, but presumably there are some other mp3 retailers, HMV possibly, that have gift cards.
