So, this is universally obvious to every one /.. However, for those not amongst the /. community, i.e. my mom or possibly, your mom, would have no idea of the correlation between opt-out and an increase in spam. I think it is totally justified to mock another /.'er for not knowing this, but recording that obvious knowledge here once and for all can only help educate the general populace. I totally agree with this, but if you really do have 100 people doing the 'same thing,' they likely aren't. Have them compare notes sometime. There's probably someone out there doing the wrong thing and someone else who's already automated something right or wrong.

If automation is too complex, then a wiki is a good way to go. Unfortunately, a wiki is going to have more than stylistic problems. I mean, who's process will be documented? If not everyone agrees with your process you'd better be able to form consensus or be in a position to dictate it.

  12. Re:Watch for the UberGeek on Interesting Wrist Watches? · · Score: 1

I have a newer USB version of the DataLink watch and like its data functions a lot. One caveat, if you already have to carry a cell phone, that may cover many/all of the same data features already. Further it cannot be synced easily or into mail/organizer applications easily and possibly not at all under Linux (?).

Further, I really dislike the non-standard, virtually unchangeable band style of the DataLink and it sounds like you want to wear a watch for style, this watch may not cover that depending on what you are going for. It has nerd triathlete down pretty well!

I keep hearing that Newton handwriting recognition (HWR) is "terrific" and "the best there ever was" and have for years. How come this terrific software has never been ported to any other platform? I googled around but, came up empty. A few years back there was the Mac PDA vaporware, obviously, not an option, what's a chicken scratcher to do if a Newton is otherwise inadequate?
