  1. Re:nada, and it never will... on What Has Number Portability Done For You? · · Score: 1

I recently relocated to Bay Area, switched to AT&T GSM from T-Mobile because coverage is much better

This may be true, however you can use your T-Mobile phone on any GSM network in the US for no extra charge. That's why I just switched to T-Mobile (and I live in the Bay Area myself) from Sprint, which charged something like 69 cents /sec. for off-network roaming. I don't want to have to think about where I am & what it's costing me to make a call...

  2. A password I can't change? on Biometrics: Prepare to be Scanned · · Score: 4, Insightful

That is effectively what biometric security is. Consider then that the entire network must be physically secure or my (eye/finger/etc.) "password" will quickly be known and re-used. The "password" I used decades ago is still valid!
Also, I'd rather give a mugger my wallet & pin, than my wallet & thumb...

  3. Nothing to watch?!?! on A Hackable Media Player For HDTV · · Score: 1

... on my $5k plasma/lcd? Then why buy one? I got a 40" HD CRT (you know, like television have always been), with an *included* digital tuner. I get over 10 digital channels (not counting all the sub-channels) over the air, for free, here in San Francisco. Most of these broadcast 1080i every evening. All these guys with six pack abs, and I'm the only one with a keg. (H.S.)

  5. Don't have kernel needs but OS needs on What Will Be in Linux 2.7? · · Score: 1

I really don't have any real demands on kernel-level features. What I need is better support on the OS-level above the kernel, for things already supported by the kernel. For example, USB is kernel-supported in the current stable kernels, but support sucks at the OS-level. When will I be able to even hotplug a mouse or digital camera?
