We need a more permanant solution, and a common Internet law kind of thing.
Well this all sounds well and good it is pretty impractical. There's no way that every country in the world is going to agree on anything, much less a law. Even if a lot of countries do agree on some kind of internet law, a lot of countries can't or won't enforce the laws.
This can be a problem, but when you save umpty thousands of bucks on Windows licences, you can pay for having an application written from scratch just for you (or having an existing opensource app customized).
Do you have any experience with the corporate world? Once you have a trusted system, you don't patch even one minor component without extensive testing. No company is going to ditch a trusted, working system to rewrite a component from scratch.
Besides the, "Well linux doesn't have that software but you can pay someone to develop an alternative for you" pitch is not going to work.
You failed to read my comments closely. I expect a company to hire qualified Linux professionals if they intend to deploy Linux, not the first monkey that walks through the door
Well companies already have lots of people who know how to do things the windows way. Why hire other people to do things differently when you can do things the same way with the staff you have?
As for there being no truth to the campaign, you appear to be living in a fantasy where the linux world is truly as usable as the windows world.
While they may have a cross license agreement, I don't think that that has anything to do with the fact that the Intel64 uses the AMD64 intsuction set. I believe the instruction set is public anyway. It has to be known in order for software/compilers to be written for it. I don't think that a processor with a "secret" instruction set would be even remotely successful.
If I remember corretly, the Intel's SSE was implimented in AMD's chips but was called something else (not sure if that was 3DNow! or not.) I could be mistken here. It just what I remember from a computer architecture course from several years ago.
Or perhaps, posting flaimbait in as an article usually generates a huge response. The more one sided the topic is, the more of a response will get. This means more people will view the Microsoft ads at the top of the screen and slashdot will get more money.
Is this pointing to an unholy union between CowboyNeal and Bill Gates?
not conducive to life as you know it. but maybe something with crazy hibernation abilities could evolve. you can't prove otherwise!
I did not attempt to prove otherwise. I agree completly with the "not conducive to life as you know it" but we have to base it on something. What else do we have to go on but what we understand?
I agree that the articles conjectures don't hold much water. To address your moon on a gas giant point, one of the articles on this that I read (nto sure if it is this one or not) mentioned that due to their very eliptical orbits, the planets (and their moons) would be very close to the sun at times and very far away at other times. This is no conducive to life.
As it should be but if anything it would make people fight against each other even more. Religion fuels a lot of our current social problems. What the hell is it going to do when we fight intelligent life that wasn't created in what our cultures felt was "God's vision"?
Oh please. There might be some wackos out there that may take that issue but there are pleanty of other wackos out there too. I don't think that most "Christians" would have any problem with the idea that God created life elsewhere and didn't bother to give us details.
We've been looking how long? How old is the universe? How big is the universe? There is life out there, it could take a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time to find it, though.
You need a big IF in front of that there. Nobody can say for sure whether there is life out there unless we find it.
Apple doesn't care about increasing demand for ITMS. Apple has said many times that they break about even on ITMS. The sole purpose of it is to sell their iPod.
Neat idea but reading large amounts of text on a television screen always really practical, especially for someone with poor eyesite. It's much easier and more relaxing to read it 18" or so from your face.
I suspect this may be one of the reasons why webtv never really took off.
That said, I don't think it would be difficult to do and I'm sure some people would purchase it but I doubt it would be a big hit.
Well, I would think something could be done with the gps data along with altitude data to give a warning, at least for collisions with other planes. A building/mountain collision detection could be done with accurate maps of the flight area.
I've never had that problem with themes. I don't use many though. I use FF on windows and linux. I stick with safari on OS X though. It has little features that FF doesn't.
The one that makes a huge difference for me is it's method of handling address bar history. On firefox if I type "sla" and want it to autocomplete with the "shdot.org," I'll get a bunch of stuff like this "http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=116821&op=Rep ly&threshold=1&commentsort=0&tid=154&tid=1&mode=th read&pid=9884943." Apparently there is a feature in Safari that keeps track of how often the page is visited and gives me what I am looking for. This is a wonderful feature. I expect FF will have it eventually.
I also like being able to change tabs with the arrow keys instead of the ctrl-tab. It's also better integrated with the rest of the system then firfox is. Firefox integrates jsut fine with XP though. I do wish Safair had the depth of options that firefox has though.
I wish mods would look at the timestamps before they declare something as redundant. This was posted a whole 7 minutes after the first post on the installer that I see and 12 minutes after the article was posted.
This issue here is that people are giving them information, but its faked information. So if its invalid information, how good is it? Why even have registration anymore if there is nothing for publishers to gain from it?
Well one thing they can get from this is statistics, like how many different users they have and how frequently they use the service. It's probably mroe reliable then cookies. Until bugmenot came along, I didn't use these sites that require registration to view.
XBox sales numbers are well-known to be the lowest of the three major consoles,
I find that suprising from my personal experience. I know lots of people that have ps2s, some with xboxes and not one with a game cube. Perhaps the game cubes are marketed towards younger gamers.

The CAN-SPAM act says that spammers CAN-SPAM you! It works exactly as intended.
Not quite. They are supposed to identify the emails as spam. This is not happening.

Why not feed yourself with a steady job and do what you love in your spare time?
I have a slightly different take on that. Why not do what you love for a living?
2x64bit processors, up to 8 gigs of memory, SATA drives, 1Ghz FSB and so on, what more could you want in a gaming platform?
Perhaps compatibility with games?
And a Kia costs less than a Lexus. You could buy a 486 on ebay. A $380 computer is going to be crap.
I believe that it is possible to overload a tracker. That sounds like it might be what you are experiencing.

Nothing to see here. Move along.
The two statements:
There's no need to violate privacy any more than it already is in order to stop terrorism, nor to do it in unreasonable ways.
and
Law enforcement needs to be everywhere, all the time - otherwise criminals will inevitably learn the prediction strategies and work around them.
seem contradictory. I'm not sure of your point here.

Exactly. You can't prove that something doesn't exist, only that it does. That has not been done yet.
