    Nope. Their hosting provider has a 212 area code. New York is hardly civilized. Also, it's in DMCA jurisdiction. (Though jurisdiction didn't seem to be an issue for the FBI and Indymedia.)

    No, you're not. Most people's brains use a reading shortcut where it grabs the letters at the start and end of the word and then infers what the word is based on that. "Phonographic" starts with a P and ends with "graphic." I litterally have to go letter by letter to resolve the word correctly.

    I never want to buy one of these newfangled cars that have more electronics than a hacker's apartment. It can have EFI and DIS, those aren't gonna do much harm if they go nuts. ABS is okay too because those units failsafe to full breaking power at the first hint of trouble. Other than those I'd like to keep my clutch, gears, steering, and non-abs-mode breaking on manual control.

    I ran this thing last night forgetting that Firefox was installed to a location that user accounts can't write to.

    Seeing the error mesage and remembering this fact I lit Firefox as root and ran the update. This left Firefox mangled and incapiable of downloading things from the user accounts.

    The moral of the story: do be careful using the update thingy. Now, off to fill out a bug report.

    Who finds this version numbering scheme damn confusing? The actual program calls itself 1.0PR but the directory structure on the Mozilla server and CowboyNeal call it 0.10.1. Anyone care to explain what's going on here?

    It will be very interesting to see how long it takes to make the MPAA & company feel safe....

    The MPAA will feel safe between the time that that some company or another sells them a "bulletproof" DRM system and three weeks later when somebody hacks the thing in the name of fair use, consequently letting the Kazaa monkeys at it.

    properly packaged distros usually do not require a kernel compile.

    They don't require it to function, but the stock kernels are typically compiled for 486 or 586. Personally I like my kernel to be taking advantage of CPU features introduced after that rather than treating my P4 as a really fast P1.
