    Also to consider, the accident that started the pinto controversy was a rear end collision at 30 miles/hour (starting faster, 30 at impact) which is a pretty bad wreck even in a modern car


    Schwartz said that the car was no more fire-prone than other cars of the time, that its fatality rates were lower than comparably sized imported automobiles, and that the supposed "smoking gun" document that plaintiffs said demonstrated Ford's callousness in designing the Pinto was actually a document based on National Highway Traffic Safety Administration regulations about the value of a human life

    you don't pay for a cookbook for the recipes it has, you pay for it for all the bad ones it won't have.

    also i can spill some oil or milk on a cookbook and not worry about it. (though i can print online recipes and I do sometimes)

    that has nothing to do with the internet, that is just FCC broadcast and interference regulations. The FCC doesn't regulate desk fans, but a desk fan that puts out interference is still in violation.

    you can get anecdotal evidence about any bank sucking. I never had any trouble with B of A. I have noticed a fairly strong correlation between people hating Bank of America and people who fuck up their finances regularly and in spectacular ways, like forgetting that there is a large rent check that hasn't posted, or having an account that can be drawn from by check, debit card, electronic debit and or ATM at the same time.

    the problem is the baggers do not fall under the category of "sensible" and really do want the absence of government regulation, at least until such deregulation bites them in the ass then it's the government that was incompetant for not doing more to prevent it.

    you subpoena your ISP for a copy of the complaint and sue the filer for libel, tortious interference, harassment, and lobby your state's AG to investigate them criminally for filing a false instrument.

    unless there is a patent, a clean room implementation is fine

    however it is rarely done, because having two isolated teams, one tearing something apart and documenting behavior, the other building a functional clone is far more costly than just developing a product, unless you need exact behavior matching to interface with a common system or something.

    they already bin perfectly good high end CPU's down to lower end models for marketing purposes, if this system replaces that with an option to upgrade later it's just offering a stopgap later, rather than taking the time and money to replace your CPU drop the $50 and upgrade it and keep using for another year.

    most SSD units are laptop sized, the desktop kits are the same drive with a bracket. no reason you couldn't make huge SSD's on current tech that filled the space of a 3.5" drive bay, let alone a 5.25
