Last week the rumor mill was also discussing WebOS tablets. This isn't a new shocking development, this was pretty much expected the moment they bought Palm.
Thanks for the stunning insight, I couldn't for a million years figure this out.
Maybe you should also look at the developers themselves, you know the ones that are happy to charge you twice or three times for a game on different platforms?
Posters on slashdot seem to suffer immensely from amnesia.

yet would be free...meaning Apple wouldn't get their cut.
My retort is Apple does not make that much from "their cut."
Yes of course the App store is a huge selling point of the iDevices, but the 30% that Apple is getting from them is mostly covering the cost to provide those apps in the first place and to provide the development environment.
Did you read the OP? He was talking about getting an iPhone dev license.
Sure you could make a lot for the DS, but what's the cost of entry into the DS ballpark?
The only thing I will point you to is the fact that Apple has had billions of applications downloaded from it's store up until now, and has made many people very comfy.
Simple reason is because people who have iPhones/iPads/iWhatevers actually buy apps. Apple owns something like 95% of the portable app market right now, so yes, they are in fact the BIGGEST market for mobile games.
Yes, but Microsoft makes up the money in consoles by selling millions of games which each have an MS tax and very expensive dev licenses.
Putting the Courier up against the iPad, you're looking at $4.99-$.99 apps and maybe a million or two sold in the year... Compare that to the 30 million+ xbox 360s out there, there is no way they could have sold this for near cost.
Besides, 2 screens is a killer drain on battery life, and no matter what, this thing would have cost ~600 just to manufacture.
Really? Useful energy is energy you can get work out of...
And yes, there is a lot of energy coming out of the reaction that can not be used for doing work...
Who says the government code wouldn't be open source?
For the people, by the people eh?
Oh wait, they do.
That must burst your bubble.
Uhh, you're talking about a pen based interface, not touch. Get it right.
Also Windows XP was horrible for Tablets, I know, I had one.

What part of scientific-technological elite do you not get?
What they need to do is hire some mechanical engineers that deal with vibrations. There are many many ways to deal with vibrations.
Oh yeah, that's definetly it.

Of course it does, but they aren't making the profit directly from the 30% cut they take.
This argument fails because Apple makes barely any profit on the App market itself.
They make all of their profit on selling the Devices themselves.

Of course it can. It would take you about 5 seconds to google that.

Which they shouldn't.
Why release your work for free? Does freedom feed you at the end of the day? Does it pay for your rent?
What if he was reading his email?
Don't tell me you've never gotten silly emails like that from friends or family?
The EVO is definitely not an iPad killer.
Have you even used an iPad before?
Take this from someone who will be getting the EVO the day it's released but also has an iPad.
That's because all applications for the iPhone are signed by apple.
Exactly, he's just a really rich idiot right? What does he actually know?

You know there are free apps for the iPhone right? A ton of them in fact?
Did you also know that Apple makes a minuscule profit on the App store itself? They use it to encourage develops which drives hardware sales.
Because it sucks?
Next thing you know your going to complain that your CD player can't play mp4 files. But you own the thing!!!1
