The ball is 4 inches across, much smaller than a regulation soccer ball.
This thing is amazing. There is nothing else like it. We picked up a used one after they were discontinued and have been using it daily for the last 6 years on the kids computer. It still works great. Microsoft hardware is immensly superior to their software.
The only reason I would not use one for every day use is the single button. Three buttons and a scroll wheel work much better in X11. That and the touchpad is build into my laptop. The ball is a litte awkward to carry everywhere.
The Sony DSC-T1 has an amazing LCD display. Even in bright sunlight it shows the colors with purity. This is especially important since it has no optical viewfinder. Highly recommended. I have owned it for a month now.
I only wish my laptops had as good a display in sunlight. Unlike most basement dewlling slashdotters, I perfer to code in briliant sunlight preferably overlooking a lake. Now where can I get a laptop with a display that is even somewhat legible in direct sunlight.
Old cars did get better milage in my experience. I traded in my 87 CRX for an 00 Caravan. The CRX had way better milage. It did not hold 4 kids, however.
I am at my second startup. The first one went under and I was unemployed for 6 months. Fortunatly, the higher salary I made while I was employed made up for the inconvenience and it was a fun job.
Happiness above all. I like the startup environment. Other people hate it. I left a nice secure job for more money and instability. You have to like the prospect that making more means you might have a period of unemployment ahead. If you can live with that, do it. The stress is definitly higher but in my case, the job is also more fun. Your milage may vary.
Forget the electron microscope, any jeweler accustomed to working on mechanical watches should be right at home with this. Of course, there may not be many jewelers accustomed to working on mechanical watches left any more.
Oh yeah, this is Slashdot.
Anyone who can hand solder surface mount components should feel right at home. For example, SSOP ICs have 250 um wide pins centered 650 um apart.

If you look inside any Cisco product you'll find a small vacuum tube
before cluing in that I have not see a vacuum tube in years.
This this likely means:
- No more Harry Potter _video games_
- No more Bionicle _shoes_
This says nothing about mindstorms being axed but does imply:
