  1. What happens to Derby? on Sun Buys MySQL · · Score: 1

I know Sun provided a lot of support to Apache Derby. Does anyone have any insight on what this buyout means for Derby? Is Derby going to be kicked to the curb?

  2. Cha-Ching! on Cyber Crime A Distant #3 Priority for FBI · · Score: 1

Man that is around 391K per agent. I take it there is a pork project or two in there, but really that is a lot of dough, especially for cyber-crime where you don't necessarily need much besides servers/connectivity, experts, and a lot of time. I would love to see the break-down of costs. I have a feeling they aren't looking for the most economical route to catch cyber criminals. http://parthian-shot.blogspot.com/

Hehe... They say it's environmentally friendly. That is of course, if your environment is not within a mile or two of the blast zone. http://parthian-shot.blogspot.com/

  4. What's his name? on Indian Call Center Employees Hack US Bank Accounts · · Score: 2, Funny

Did anyone notice the mastermind's name was Ivan Samuel Thomas? I don't know any Indian guys named Ivan, Samuel, or Thomas. What's up with that? Are we exporting our criminals too?

  5. lawyers like to recover R&D expenses on Suing Open Source Startups - A New Scam? · · Score: 1

this in all likelihood is bogus, but keep in mind that many large corporations see patent infringements as a way to recover R&D expenses. I have a friend who is a senior counsel at one of the R&D departments of large wireless company. They troll all day to find patent infringements and use this to break even on costs they spent on developing new technologies. Even if this is a large company and you guys are the "small fish" you probably will not be a target unless there are large enough sums of money to tempt the larger company into a lawsuit. Good luck, and let us know what happens!
