Lycoris is much like Lindows (or whatever it is now). They aim to be very much like MS Windows. It was initially supposed to be a distro you could use to wean yourself off of MS Windows. It was the first distro I successfully installed when I first started using Linux a few years back. The times between release date where very infrequent and as I recall the distro just wasn't that great in the first place. It seems like it was kinda buggy. Of course I was a noob back in those days too.

Imagine if you were buying something online from Amazon, for arguemnets sake. Would you be concerned if you found out that you didn't really type your CC and address and what not into Amazon but instead you gave to "some guy" who claims not to keep the data. He says he doesn't keep it but "joe sixpack" and maybe even I can't prove that he doesn't. As far as Odeon's concerned the browser incapitbility is small beans compared to that. Sure they need to fix that, but I'd be much more concerned about the customer safety/satisfaction stand point.

Or do what I did. I happened to know an HR guy that went to my church. I asked him I could talk to the IT director about how he/she first got a job and what they look for. I never directly asked anybody for a job. Four weeks later, someone got canned in IT and guess who was the 1st person the IT Director thought of? Me. So now I work in the IT department of a hospital and have been for nearly a year and a half.

I think this is a true statement, however unfair or bad you think it is. I got my current job because my dad was friends with the director of human resources of where I work (same church). So I got my foot in the door there. He didn't just give me the job, but with out that contact I probably wouldn't have been considered. I was contacted by a family friend about my next job opportunity. He also went to our church and was president of a company. They were looking, but I like where I was more. So really most of my opportunities and even side jobs are because of family friends, church members or people I've known.

Didn't you just kill your own point there? The average user can barely set up a printer in Windows. Much less in Linux. That's what he is talking about. It is fun for me to work on setting up a printer in Linux, but I would never, say, give my mom a printer and a Linux PC and say "have at it!" She wouldn't even know where to begin and she is very computer literate (ex. understands email, web browsing, and how to operate Windows explorer. And of course, play freecell.) As much as I, someone in the computer industry, enjoys running and using Linux, I have always agreed that it is not ready to totally compete with Windows as far as desktop usability goes.

Yes, it is true that you do lose some functionality with the switch to linux. Gaming is a big one for me. This is why I dual boot.... Well there are a few other reasons I do this. As for the hardware issue, though not a totally diminished problem, it is a fading one (well, I'll just ignore the laptop issues). My big reason for using Linux is the knowledge I've gained in doing so. With Windows, about as far into the system you can get is the registry. Learning how to set up and properly configure the servers already incorporated into Linux was a huge (and fun) learning experience. Getting in and changing configurations in files, while at first scary, is actually something I look forward to. I never had to argue, either. I did use the hell out of several message boards and google. Anyways, the point is that I think by using Linux it is a great learning experience. I'm using FC1 as my main desktop right now, even though I do need windows for some work related issues. Well, I need it for using Macromedia Fireworks and Dreamweaver too.

this "no no it works just fine!" attitude is one of the reasons I don't want to switch to Linux.

The reason you don't want to switch is the attitude of others? Or is it you who doesn't want to break from a comfort zone that you have with your current OS....
