I've heard from S. Korean friends that in N. Korea that no brids sing or chrip because most have been caught and used a food. The populace is in a continual status of near starvation, while nearly all food produced is diverted to keep the military fed.

But, now they are called machinist. Believe it or not the majority of run run and prototype parts for new designs are not not done by big companies, but are farmed out to small one or two man operations.
I have a friend who owns his own machine shop. He works alone (for himself) and makes a decent living.
The "big corps will rule the world" death cry is flawed in that the bigger a corporation is, the harder it is for it to adapt to changing technologies or tends.

True, bringing the horrors of the Holocaust to such a trival discussion is in poor taste.
However, if you look of the history of how Hilter came to wield such authoritain power of Germany in WWII, you will find that he chipped away at feedoms a tiny bit at a time.
We must remember that price of freedom is eternal viligence.
There is a ATM at my local 7-11 that uses a modem to dial-out using a POTS line (you can hear it dial). I 've always wondered if you put a recording device on the line to catch the modulated traffic that you could play it back and fool the ATM into thinking it had actually dialed the bank and received authorization.
Of course, I would never actually try such shenanigans, but it always struck me as a rather unsecure way to communicate.

Borland's Delphi (Object Pascal) is one of the best languages out there.
Ture, it used to be WINTEL only, but is slowly moving cross-patform (starting with Linux).
Sadly, in the US at least, it plays second fiddle to Micro$oft's less powerful, harder to us offering.

I run Windows XP on my gaming machine. I use two drive RAID-0 for Windows and all the apps and a two drive RAID-1 for my data files.
