Years ago I worked in the metal stamping industry.Dies can be built overseas for a fraction of the cost in the US. But there were three problems that prevented the practice from being implimented.
My stepfather is a machinist. He told me that his company buys their dies from a chinese company. I said, "How can you do that? Your dies must take a long time to be delivered". He said, "The dies are so cheap, we buy spares. If a die breaks, we replace it with a spare, and when the broken die finally arrives after it's been fixed, we use it as a spare". He also said that some of their dies are 'guaranteed for the life of the die', from this chinese company.
there is a scam that starts with the phrase, "You've made a small mistake, you gave me too much money".
I was a waiter once. The scam starts out as stated, then the scam escalates by the scammer giving back some money and then saying "I've made a small mistake," . After a few of these 'mistakes' a cashier may be caught off guard, especially if the scammer is very friendly. The victim loses count and then the victim has lost some money.
I can see why someone may have said what they said, especially if you asserted yourself as being friendly.
My favorite Aussie stories are the "Tunnel Rats" of Vietnam !!!
Good stuff...
However, I remember the Bali Bombings. There were two bombings, to be exact. One in a bar, one in a vehicle. After 9/11 in America, our pain was our top priority. The Bali Bombings may not have had the coverage the Australians would have liked, but we were a nation getting ready to hand out some whoop-ass.
Call it "Tunnel Vision" on our part.
Which is also it's weakness - the programmer has more control and authority than any database designer, analyst, or manager.
How is that a weakness? How many times have developers been restricted by the local DBA, database designer, analyst, or manager? Too many.
I like the idea of having control from beginning to end. Not that I'm such a control freak, but if I have any problems, I have a better idea of the 'Big Picture'. I can resolve the vast majority of any issues without having to rely on someone else.
I agree, however, there are so many points to ponder that I'd like to wait until I receive a direction to move towards. I like waiting for someone else to supply the discussion points.
I'll make an exception this time since I do not have many bites...
The nested structure of MultiValue fits very well with the same type of structure of XML. Another benefit of MultiValue databases are variable-length fields. OK, that's a start...
A Multivalue database model is better suited for XML, and better suited for real-world data, period.

is pride getting in the way of earning a paycheck?
heck no, I'd like to have the McDonald's IT services contract !!!
Seriously, if I had to work at McDonald's then, so be it. I have invested too many resources into my IT career to do that unless it's a 'last resort'. My original post concerned the people that I know, not myself.
I'm sure those SCO employees who are losing their job wouldn't be too amused by some AC pussy's comment about working at McDonald's.

Just like this Einstein guy who put his life into an equation consisting of only three letters.
Damn, that was good !!!

I'll bet you're one of those important 'mail room' employees.....

however, I can't believe there isn't any h2o trapped in the polar ice caps. If there was water on Mars, it had to find it's way North or South.
Wow, I wonder what the polar ice caps are made out of? Dirt?
