This is quite obviously a horrendous invasion of privacy on the part of doubleclick, and a boycott (of sorts) should begin immediately. I would presume that very few users want to be in the doubleclick database, and as such i submit a simple sollution. Simply put the doubleclick domain (in ie, i presume netscape has a similar feature) into the restricted sites area, and adjust security in that zone as necessary to as not accept cookies.
Actually, i am a windows user, and find it to be a good (yes i did just say that on slashdot) OS. as for IE, while it is much more stable than ever before, i am quite ofter confronted with illegal operations during and at the shutdown of IE. However i must admit that IE is faster and in many ways better than netscape (tho whether this is due to good coding or hidden api's i can not say).
It seems quite fitting that homer uses ie. Afterall, he will he get to "doh" at the ever present crashes. On the same note, i wonder if homer recomends you accept cookies from strangers... ...what about apletts?
I was dissapointed in the 64/Nintendo when they came out with simply one controller and no games, because, for every other system they had made, they came out with 2 controllers and one game. Even when the gennessis was shipping with one controller, the SNES had 2. All in all, Nintendo had stood above their competitiors with things like these (including two controllers, when they could include only one). With the 64, Nintendo 'sunk' to their comptetitors level, and so i am dissapointed in them.
Considering sony's current position, and the continued success of an out-dated system (the PSX being dwarfed in the technology sector by dreamcast and nintendo), it is a very intelligent bet that sony is making. When you consider that the PSX continually fills (on average) half of the ten titles on the weeks best selling list. Add this to best selling developers like Square, amazing sales and a loyal fan base, it doesn't take genious to see that the PSX 2 will sell. It may not sell as well as the PSX, but it will sell. And *if* Sony is able to interest even more top developers (ie: if it could grab RARE away from nintendo), the PSX 2 will sell big.
Finally, Sony has another thing going for it -- nintendo's mistakes. For all of my life i have been a nintendo loyal (owning every system, save the virtual-boy that they have made). As you might expect i purchased the N64 when it first came out and was sadly dissapointed: one controller, no games, no memory packs; this wasn't the Nintendo i grew up with.
Don't get me wrong, the 64 has great games...just not enough of them. The 64 has been, for me, enough of a dissapointment to cause me to consider switching to the PSX 2 when it comes out (having not seen a single *good* rpg on the 64 -- Zelda was good, but still -- it simply isn't enough)!
I can say, finances affording, i plan to buy sony stock.
The government taxes us everywhere else, and quite honestly, there isnt much reason why they shouldnt tax us on the net. We may like it if they didn't, but chances are they see a net-tax as the revenue maker that it is, and as such will tax us regardless
In today's world, the question is no longer is this information public, rather is it safe secure, in that can someone else use it. In the case of zip codes, there are very few conceivable ways that this information could be used against you. As such we can rule it is secure. In terms of whether it is public (information) or not, i am inclined to say it is. It is atleast as public (information) as Telephone numbers and addresses (e-mail included), if not more so (due to its less personal, ability to track so easily.)
Personally i find Microsofts pricing relatively attrocious, bur lets face it, they can get away with it!
Now, undoubtedly this will cause some companies to move to Linux, but not many. Microsoft may realise that Linux, still not usable as a server in all circumstances, is still not a major threat. As such they will not attempt to utilise a "competitive" pricing plan until Linux is able to do *everything* and more the Windows can. At this point they will do one of two things, lower prices, or start churning out an even better product (im betting on the lower prices myself), but until then they see Linux as the threat it isn't (which may be stupidity on their behalf).
Still, they must realise that charging so much will encourage piracy.
It seems like another waste of time that will probably as an april fools or halloween joke superimpose an image onto it!
I mean, what is the point? It is like watching a ghost on video or 'real life UFO footage', you as the watcher, just can't believe it unless you're actually there (due to the number of hoaxes out there). still, this site is still worth a quick look and a laugh.
Note that i would LOVE a 1GHz computer (and plan to buy around an 800MHz Athlon after Christmas to upgrade my p2-233) but in reality i don't need the power (i *want* it, but try explaining why i need it to someone who doesnt use a computer regularily, and thinks doom is the best PC game out there)
Well, i know *i'd* like one, but in reality, what does the average user need with 1 GHz (atleast at the moment anyway)?
While i am sure game designers are leaping for joy at the excessively fast calculations these processors wil do (and the resulting impact on gaming), we as yet don't *need* that power. Afterall, Some of the best looking games coming out will run nicely on 300Mhz Obviously certain roles are perfect for these processors.....servers spring to mind....but for the average home user, it really isn't needed (once again, however, i wouldn't complain to owning one;)
Well, it is a joke afterall... In terms of Virtual Memory, the G3's and G4 at my school run with 96mb of ram and do not recquire Vitrual Memory turned on, in fact they run fantasticly. As for older macs at school (which have 64 mb of ram), they can run without wm as well, but, truth said it does help perfomance
Ok, let me start out by saying i know that Mac is the better computer, and i seriously wish i owned one.
That said, i am currently a PC owner, and as such still have some loyaylty to intel. I feel this must be said. Someone is bound to, it might as well be me. Wintel/Linux on Intel/AMD PC's rejoice. For once more, we have a legitamate reason to feel supperior (though, whether this reason will last for long, i know not... We can, now, if for a brief moment, stick our tongue's out at Mac users and brag about us being able to get higher processor speeds (yes, yes, BYTEmark integers would love to argue with me, i know, but then this isn't exactly a serious post)! That said, i have a few opinions on why Mac's are worth the extra price (not that i'd complain should they decide to price *more* competitively) 1st: They crash less 2nd: No need for Virtual Memory (or atleast you can turn it off and still be able to run your MacOS of choice) and 3rd: Power...they *are* faster, and in general run smoother.
I no doubt have now invoked the wrath of users of any computer, and as such, will now sit peacefully, hoping that my mail client doesnt tell me i have 100+ new messages!
Yes Tux...the ultimate bedpartner (get those sick thoughts out of your head..that IS NOT what i meant) You heard right, he's stable...you won't hear a single snore from him! And who needs a serta perfect sleeper? Tux never moves, drop a bowlling ball beside him, he won't mind or care! Best of all is Tux's multi-functioning way of operating...yes, it's true... tux can be making you bvreakfast while doing the laundry...all this wrapped up in a nice display that rivaly any other service like it.
Tux... he's stable, he's able, and he's ready tp serve you! Book now...space is limitied.
I remember my hamster in his plastic ball; so excited to be allowed into the "real" world. (mind you at times there were troubles when he encountered the stairs). so what does this have to do with the average slash reader? well in a nutshell...imagine: Presenting the ZORB, the ultimate exploratory tool are you too attached to the computer? Do you continually here references to the "outside" and wonder what it's all about? Is your idea of having a good time taking down a Microsoft Server? Well then the ZORB is for you...it allows you to explore the "outside" world...all the marvels...all the scenery. The ZORB allows you to explore without leaving the sense of security of being seperated from everything else. ----ORDER NOW--- SUPPLIES ARE LIMITED CALL 1-800-BIGBALL for more information "The outside is waiting....are you ready?"
Its more media being blamed for stuff thats not its fault...school shooting blame doom.....Gambling addiction...blame nintendo ive never heard Matha Stewart being blamed for a teen baking a cake!
I find it absolutely ridiculous that a law firm, int the first place could possibly think they could sue Nintendo and co over gambling issues...i mean whats next? Suing Id software for promoting school shootings? This, to me, sounds like a *REALLY* bad episode of Ally McBeal.
