  1. Clarification on the 400 APM on Become a Professional Gamer · · Score: 5, Informative

In the article, the author noted that the top player(s) can reach upwards of 400 APM.

This needs clarification about exactly what's going on here.

First off, this number is derived out of all the combined actions over the course of the game and divided by how many minutes the game was. There is a simple program created and written for this that analyzes each game through the replay details. If _anyone_ here plays StarCraft or it's younger brother WarCraft 3 (as both are considered professional games in Korea with WC3 becoming more and more popular) then you will know it's damn near impossible to accomplish anything efficiently with that high of an APM in the early game for about the first 2-4 minutes. To get that APM, keep in mind, he has to be clicking away approx. 6 times a second for the WHOLE match.

Yes, players can do this, but we gamers give it a special name: Spam clicking. As an avid gamer, spam clicking is one of the most obnoxious ways to show off your 1337 skills.

How do I know that 400 APM isn't possible, or at least where every click actually does something? Very simple, I've seen these replays, and by comparing top replays of players who spam click vs. those who don't, the highest _most efficient_ number is more are 150-175 APM, well below the 400 number the author glorified these players with. As you can probably tell, this works with marketers and advertising business, because I once tried to spam that much myself, and couldn't get higher than 250. People think it's supernatural.

  2. Natural Biases on Amazon to Take on Google? · · Score: 2, Interesting

Maybe it's just me, but I'm pretty sure that I will not be able to count on Amazon to give me back non-biased results whenever I'll do a search. Being a -company- where profit is far more important than anything else, will they try to capitalize on it buy throwing in it's own products before someone else's?

It's probably legal, since it's Amazon's search engine, but if I'm looking for a new blender or whatever, I can bet a million to one the first couple ( if not more ) links will be geared toward amazon.com

Reminds me of the MSN search engine.

  4. Get your numbers straight on Tech Rich Get Richer · · Score: 1

This issue of who gets the most money from the taxcuts and what not shouldn't be an issue at all.

I'm poor as hell, so I don't have any natural biases(well...maybe). But I do understand that 6-figure+ salary makers pay more than me, and therefore should recieve back more than me.

Did you even bother considering which end of the spectrum actually pays the most taxes, because it isn't the same.

The wealthiest 50% of the U.S. pay 96% of all income taxes. Bet you have never read this before. Despite the fact that this is from 2000, I doubt things have changed significantly since. So shouldn't the people who pay the most, get the most back?

  5. Re:Wow! on Intel Demos New P4 'Extreme Edition' · · Score: 1

Yeah....It's funny how the current 3.2ghz P4 costs $605[pricewatch.com], and no doubtedly the eXXXX...treme version will cost only that much more for a 6.7% increase with more cache (should i be happy?) Well, I got your 6.7% right here. For about 300 dollars, you can buy a 2.4C P4 and a decent mobo, and OC the pentium to a stable 3.4ghz+ on AIR [overclockers.com] The 512k L2 cache I believe is more than sufficient for todays desktop applications Just make sure the RAM is fast enough.
