I hate that such an "Us vs. The stupid mob" post was moderated +5 insightful. Just because you're a religious conservative doesn't mean you're a slack-jawed yokel who wants all public schools turned into churches. Most who I know would get very upset if their kids came home with bad grades. And there are are plenty of liberals who don't give two shits about science or education in my experience. Anecdotal sure, but I think it's fairly short-sighted to blame any and all anti-science sentiment (and anti-intellectual sentiment in general) on *just* the conservative right.

Ok, so what you're saying is that in America, liberal is what is normal and "progressive" and conservative is even more facist than Musolini... Gee, this hyperbolic world you've created for yourself sounds like a great place to live. It must be much easier there to renconcile the complexities of politics into simple statements like "liberals good, convervatives evil."

    This just in:

Microsoft, under due pressure from various anti-Microsoft groups and lobbyists, has announced the release a stripped down version of Windows later this year. The tentative name for it will be "Windows XP: Why the hell should I even buy this?" The operating system will take out much more of the Microsoft programs installed by default than any previous versions had before including programs like Notepad. "The consumer these days wants more accessible third party options [so] we decided to take out everything." quoted Bill Gates at a press conference, "We're also debating the neccesity making consumers use our GUI when there are so many third party possibilities."

Also announced was that the new version of Windows will ship in a "third party" corrugated cardboard box. "We didn't want anyone to feel forced into using Microsoft related packaging." replied Gates when asked about the strange decision.

From a business standpoint it makes sense. Businesses other than Microsoft are doing things like this all the time, that's what I'm saying. MS deserves bad sentiment, but not for this in particular. Not for simply wanting to knock their obvious competition out of the playing field. Sure it's not honorable, but it's something any large business would do.

I never said I liked MS but they're not the one's suing everyone. SCO is.

This has probably been said already but the most effective way to lose weight is good ol' fashioned healthy eating and regular exercise.

Diets are just a way to quickly lose weight then to (just as quickly) gain it again. For the most part they're not effective in keeping pounds off permanently. A general way to think about this is that what you get out is proportional to what you put in. There are no free lunches.
