For those who may not have known, #SpaceShipOne channel is again available for those who wish to follow the flights for the X-Prize live. there is another channel called #SS1-FltData that was planned to carry full/live data but instead will just have current info posted there to avoid conflicts with chat in the main channel.
The channels are located on the Freenode.net servers ( irc.freenode.net ).
The Channels are:
- #SpaceShipOne - (Primary CHAT channel)
- #SpaceShipOne-overflow - (a 'backup' channel)
- #SS1-FltData - (FltData Info Only)
- #space - General 'space' chat and links to other specific JPL (and other NASA) program's channels (also on Freenode.net). #maestro (Mars Rover/SAP/Maestro software), #cassini, #messenger, etc.
- #xprize - New channel for the yearly followup of the XPrize Discussion.
You can type !launch to see the next scheduled countdown to launch (take-off time) of SS1/WhiteKnight. The time shown primarily is in CENTRAL-Time but the Pacific and GMT times are also shown as a reference. **Pacific-Time is 2 Hours behind Central-Time.
You can type !weather for the CURRENT weather report from the Mojave Spaceport (KMHV) Weather reports should be reported automatically in the Flight-Data channel (#SS1-FltData) as well. -(NEW! added feature!)
You can also type $news xprize to see the latest links from 'XPrizeNews' RSS feed, $news spacecom for links to Space.com's RSS feed, and $news spacewire for links to SpaceWire's (SpaceRef) RSS feed. Please use the '/query SS1-Info and then type in that private msg area: "news XXXXX" or just "/msg SS1-Info news XXXXX" in your normal channel... so it will not always show in their channel window each time someone want's to see it. I will on occasion do it openly to help those to know of it and to see it in operation. It also will post new/fresh headlines as they arrive.
For XPrizenews news headlines/links, you can type ' $news xprize
For Space.com news headlines/links, you can type ' $news spacecom '.
For SpaceWire news headlined/links, you can type ' $news spacewire '.
Please remember, these are Professional and Family-Oriented channels so keep off-topic chat (esp during the flights) and abusive language/inappropriate behavior to a minimum.
Since there is an issue with the automatic-overflow feature, the backup/alternative channel is openly available if it is needed by #SpaceShipOne chatters. IF the main channel fills (there will be no limit imposed), it will not re-direct you to the other channel.
It is named #SpaceShipOne-overflow. The same rules applies to this channel as the others.
Also, to those who are not sure how to use IRC, you can go HERE to learn more about how to set things up and use IRC commands.
** Windows users!: If you are not sure what client you may need, I personally recommend "X-Chat" as it is fairly easy to set up and is VERY user-configurable. It can be downloaded from http://www.xchat.org/download/
This program is available to a wide variety of other platforms/OSs as well.

lilo will NOT be doing any such thing in #SpaceShipOne. They had a fund-raiser and it is not occurring at this moment. Please remember though, Freenode is provided for by user-donations mostly, which allows Freenode to be a FREE space to chat, available to ALL who wish to utilize it's services.
Since Feeenode is such a professional-grade server-set with generally few peeps that just wish to disrupt things (unlike many other IRC servers out there), one can expect a courteous and friendly access and interactions there.
That is why Freenode.net was selected for this very important task.;)

As many already know, Scaled Composite's "SpaceShipOne" is set to fly on Sept 29th, 2004 in the early-morning hours (Pacific-time) in it's first attempt to fulfill the requirements to win the Ansari X-Prize. Chat will again be available for the flight and the following flights as well.
We had a VERY sucessful chat-session during the previous flight on June 21st and expect to have a good round this time for the X-Prize flights. The channel is open to all (we prefer you register/identify your nicks but is not a requirement for this channel). IF any 'over-flow' occurs, a back-up channel will automatically re-direct those as needed. A !news bot (Space.com) and !countdown bot is available.
We also set another 'special' channel ( #SS1-FltData ) to record/display near 'real-time' Flight-Data from SS1 but the final decision is still not complete and not expected for the first flight-attempt. In any case, we expect to still have some limited data/info available. This channel is to monitor only, no chatting there, unless you are 'voiced'. The #SpaceShipOne channel is for that.;) You MUST be a registered nick and identified in order to join this channel. There is no cost to register.
The chat-server is located on the Freenode.net series. Point your chat-client to:
-- Server: irc.freenode.net
-- Channels: #SpaceShipOne and #SS1-FltData
Hope to see you back there for the flights.;)

Admin/Moderator/OPs - SpaceShipOne CHAT
irc.freenode.net/spaceshipone
Just wanted to add that we have chat on the irc.freenode.net servers. The room is appropriately named #SpaceShipOne and is now open to the public without password needed.
Since there is apearently no real-time coverage online (unless NASATV desides to cover it), this may be the next closest thing. Share your voice, express your opinion, and just hang out and listen to others.
Just an add-in bit of info. For those interested, we now have opened up the #SpaceShipOne chat room to the public. As they ready the project to step (well fly) into space, the buzz is high and we hope many will come in and talk about the project, the concept of privitazation of space travel, and most any topic-related item. Please spread the word! With more support, the better the general subject-matter and more things to talk about. Since there will not generally be any online broadcast of the flight, this may be the next closest thing short of watching on the news (CNN sconfirmed but expect that NASATV 'might' cover it as well (from rumor mill)... we'll see.
The chat is located on the freenode servsers at irc.freenode.net. As always, we are a family and proffessional channel so please refrain from trolling, soapboxing, or using foul-language.
See you fellow/.'ers there. News that matters, the SlashDot way.;)

We have a room on the irc.freenode.net servers called #cassini which is available to all who are interested in the Cassini project. Here you will find a wide range of interests discussed, from the informal to the most scientific details of the mission. Some of the Cassini staff have shown interest in participating to further support the project's public interest so don't be surprized to meet them there.
With such high interest building as Cassini-Huygens approaches orbital insertion and the Phoebe flyby, we expect a bigger rush in the next weeks. Join in and share the experience!
If you are not sure how to do 'IRC' there are many good primers online to help and you can visit http://freenode.net for details about connecting as well as links to assist you to set things up to chat online.
