    How easy it is to forget the people living in the land of dial up.. Many people still NEED a mail client and IMAP access to GMail would be very useful for us.

    They might just...
    Whatever Mozilla code was originally coded by Netscape/AOL and is still copyrighted by them would most likely be part of any deal.

    MS can do as they please with it.

    It only a coincidence that it is available uder the GPL as well, something that can't be taken back [unless you're SCO of course]

    I really do fail to believe that the basic MS Office style word processor and spreadsheet are the pinnacle of design for such applications.

    While that may be true, The main thing stopping people from using Linux/OSS or even ANY other software .. is fear of the unknown.

    "If What I have works at least well enough, I won't bother changing. The switching costs don't warrant it" goes the mainstream user
    For Other software to break the hold of the incumbent, it must be
    • orders of magnitude better, with more features People NEED
    • have very low /no switching costs
    I'm not sure if these should be mutually exclusive

    With the tab-based browsing in Mozilla (along with other features), IE is painful to use IMHO. Along with Linux CDs, I also burn some Win-Mozilla CDs to give to people so they can break the M$ habit.

    Why not go further and make it easier on yourself by giving them The Open CD. Its got a heap of open source software in a very tidy package.[ It doesn't have Firefox yet, it waits for stable packages.]

    About 6 years back I developed and setup a Cyber Cafe management system that ran 100% off Linux and Open Source tools.

    Yep, I'd like to see that too. [ I was kinda disappointed that no link was provided, you seem'd to be gearing up to provide one, but...]
