you are going to completely get moded down here. Not because you may not be right, but because Linus is worshiped here like a god. Many people here follow him like sheep.
On an interesting note, I have read that the development of Linux compares more to the development of Gnome than KDE so this is suprising.
Power Corrupts and Absolute Power Corrupts Aboslutely. With Linus heading the Linux community and many people view him like a 'god' how big is his head these days?
Wow, talk about low quality. 2 or every 10 they make is bad. The amount of money wasted on that is crazy and it will drive up what we have to pay for it.
Where is the japanses company to make them with 3 per million bad ones? I want cheap and good. Not expensive and failure prone. There is a reason companies outside the US are able to take out market share away.
There wouldn't e a problem if the stuff was resonably priced. I would rather have it on cd (higer quality). But, it costs so much. When you look at profits there is a lot of wiggle room. A bunch of flippin rich babies and their cartel.
At what point does google know so much about us they know more than big brother? They are doing more and more and people are embracing them. At least Big Brother has enough politics to slow it down and enough oversight to not have to many bad things happen. You can't vote out Google.
There goes my karma. And I await my Google Overloards Code Red visit tonight.
If google goes deep enough... they could track drives, routines, behaviors, etc. down to the day, the event, and every little thing to maybe predict if it's going to run late.
If I were a smart spammer I would register it in someone elses name. Someone hillbilly who lives in the middle of nowhere. Maybe in the mountains. Odds fo getting caught, low. Looks real good to registrar, sure. Those won't show up in this search.
With large companies you get big office politics. That is a big detrement. The engineer or programmer can't always do what they know is best or right. They follow direction from managers that many times don't agree and who are more interested in building their own empires than doing right by the customers.
To #1... There are a load of standards that work. Just look at IEEE for many of the things we ue like firewire, wireless, etc. It can work and does work.
To #2... I use Microsoft Office cause it is the best office suite. Openoffice and the others are just not there yet. It's not about the format but the quality of the product. If you outperform the competition then it's pretty easy to sell that.
Perhaps he's right, he does get the worst software from Apple... (ok, there's two ways I can go with this) 1. But at least Apple patches them or 2. That's because Apple doesn't like him very much Take your pick;)
I'm going with 2. I bet Apple finds out where he is going to get his next apple software from and then sends him crap just to mess with him. He could get "the good stuff" if only he wore his tinfoil hat.
I cannot quite see how this would help (tabbed browsing is easy to see the benefits), tabs for the sake of tabs seems pointless.
After using Lotus (not by choice) I have grown quite fond of tabbed emails. It can be a real convienance when you need to have several emails open and don't want new windows for each as it will get cluttery. Just like with many web pages when it was a pretabed browsing world.
Ya know.... M$ could remove them from Windows and just give cds with them on it away free at the door. With every purchase. Not bundled this way, just a freebee.
working for corperate america has really taught me how to think like this. to walk the line. Well, time for my coffee and first meeting of the day.
2 Steps to profit and less complaining from the gallery...
1. Come up with completely open standards that are not controlled or licensed by you. Come up with these standards along with your peers in the industry, working together.
2. Build software apps and services to smoke the competition in these areas using these standards.
You have the money. And I would stop complaining cause I would ahve one dope system.
I don't know if there would be this level of complaining and problems with M$ if they innovated, did right by their customers, and honestly tried to put out a good product. M$ has become the GM of the software world. Sure they are big and have moeny for now but there are a lot of unhappy people with their product just waiting for a true viable alternative at the desktop to come along. So, when the Toyota of the desktop computing world finially is ready to step it up they will slowly be able to nick away at M$ and for similar management thinking as GM.
Is this reviewer biased? The entire tone of the article is to nail Apple. An honest review does pull out the plus side of things (even if the pluses are small, few, and far between) along with the minuses.
People fear what they don't understand. They hear nuclear and they think 3 mile island or world war 2. They don't think of safety. A little education and reassurance is what people need. Head to head fighting will loose this. The people need to have their point of view changed.
I can understand the hold. It's all about risk. People in the area most likely don't know the possible repurcussions of this. At least, they havn't been stated before the record. If the repurcussions are low, I am sure this will go in without a problem. Have to look out a little for public safety.
These laws may still be in place. But, businesses have evolved to be international companies. This could have been done by a non-us division. They designed, built, and sold it with no us division involved then US law would not apply. Or, am I totally off base here?
This is sales and marketing. You put a twist that is difficult for anyone who isn't technical in understanding (99% of people). This is what politicians do to get people behind something. You use a lack of understanding, make it sound good, and talk like you know what you are talking about and people buy it and believe you. Sales and marketing.
The challenge takes place in off road conditions. Existing vehicles like SUVs can handle the conditions where legos most likely can't. They didn't pic SUVs to pick SUVs. They picked them because they are vehivles that can handle the terrain
omg, you didn't just open that can of worms. This makes sense. That isn't allowed on/.
But seriously, OpenBSD may be a gerat solution if you need security now, which is what I do, but to bring linux better security is a worth while endevor.
He Should Have Said.... Use OS X

oh, [bleep] me. Panasonic is Japanese. Nevermind. I am a dolt sometimes.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ! Not Lotus Notes.
I have used many email clients including the Microsofties out there and Lotus is the only one to give me night mares. Terrible Night Mares.

This isn't just linux. It really is at OS in where those big hitter technologies are.

has there been any legitimate hint that they are going to combine to offer spreadsheet/word processing via the web or is all of this just speculation?

Although, if you need security now, go openBSD.
