There is still hope out there. Electrical Engineers at some colleges (mine anyway) still learn to program in assembly and actually make applications work that way. This seems to have become more of an electrical engineer thing that a computer science thing.
This could have good implications on future engineers. Where I read that the US is falling behind, this could help teach the logic engineers, especially electrical and computer engineers, need to use regularly.
How is this a strategy to loose money? Isn't the phone a motorola product and not an apple product. Sure there is a license fee of the software but can it really be that much.
This is an opportinuty for motorola to try and jump on the bandwagon of apple success. Motorola has not been all that successful in recent years when it comes to innovation and putting out exactly what the customer wants.
Could this be a lead in to apple in the cell phone market? Or at least a partnership in that area?
If they just licensed software that could greatly cut into their profit margins and their control over the style which is one of the things that makes them so popular.
I would say this says something about the level of education and intellegance of authorities. They aren't very educated and smart. If the techie authorities can't handle browser differences how are they supposed to find info on computers are trying to hide.
If I were the authorities I would be insulted by this article and it implying they aren't smart.
outsourcing and expanding there are two different things. Many companies started operations in these other countries that have grown to be larger than their state operations. Such as motorola. They do more biz in China than the US now. This has nothing to do with outsourcing but with expansion.
Well, trusted computing should start with a trustworthy company. That means good, consistant company ethics and ethical people working and representing the company.
Many of the UI features in here look like the same features as Firefox/Safari. This has the potential to hurt the firefox market share. At the same time, I wonder what the OS browser developers can do to add new toys to them. I have not seen anything worth noting in deer park (the next gen mozilla browser).
Why would media and advertising want people to choose their content? Don't they want to tell us what they want us to see? This doesn't seem to mesh with their game plan.
So, I wonder what this new person will be a fanboy of? Will it be Linux, BSD, Microsoft, Unix? Or will he be a fanboy of doing it the right way in the right situation?
I have a funny feeling that he will be a unix or windows only fanboy who leads down one bastardized road. Trying to please corperate masters rather than do something that works. But, I pray he does a real good job.

The dorky paper-clip cartoon is really dead; Office Assistant suggestions will no longer glibly interrupt your tasks.
RIP Clippy

Got you beat... I was able to make out every note to Red Dirt Road while my girlfriend was nagging me.
The iTunes phone comes wtih just enough storage for 100 songs.

What big company is going to block China? That's where most of their workers are. Can't cut your communications lines to them.
Does anyone have any review info on Teleo? I would expect the service to be of simial quality to what Teleo did with a Microsoft look.
Way to patent something years after you put out the product!
There must be some good legal reason for this. Anyone from Microsoft have any more insight into this?
You claim it's a poor imitation... but could it be a good imitation? I am curios to what other /.ers think.
I don't like the evil empire as much as the next guy, but sometimes they do something not to shabby.

I didn't know they were going to make a terabite model. They'll have to for her entire body of work.
Now I can easily take my p0rn collection everywhere.
This beggs me to ask, do twon wrongs make a right?
This also brings out the same issues of mob mentality. Who decides who is bad or good? Who leads the mob?
that means they would know my password is password, my name is jo daddy and my email is anonymous124341234@hotmail.com. oh no.

Geeks don't have social lives and tend to stay in and watch these shows. I am one of them :-)
openBSD may be the most secure of them all (Linux, BSDs, Windows).
As the website advertises: Only one remote hole in the default install, in more than 8 years!
If you want security forget Microsoft or Linux. Get yourself some OS X or BSD.
Now, go ahead and mod me down.
