If you're buying a combo for the phone first, and yet you want all these features (btw: I'm sorry, but camera phones are absolutely useless for any sort of real photography. If all you're doing is moblogging, it may work, but outside of that... useless) and it to still fit in your pocket, and YET still run PalmOS, you're asking for a heck of a lot. The screen size required for a proper palmOS is incompatable with the size of the phone you seem to want.
Plus, with all the crap you want, you obviously don't want a phone first. Buy yourself a small clamshell and a PDA and call it a day.
According to DeLoitte and Touche, Google's revenues have increased over 430,000% over the past 5 years. If that rate continues, Google will own every search engine by '09.
I don't mean to reply again, but I just read the second half of your post.
"The strength of the country is only as strong as we allow the president to be."
Do you have any concept of American politics, or any knowledge of American history? You must've heard the phase checks and balances once or twice, seeing as you write like you're a political pundit. The founders of your new country were trying to avoid the oppression and tyranny that the British monarchy was enforcing on the people, so they gave the President, as both the head of government and the head of state, limited powers to ensure that the country would never fall into tyranny, and to prevent a dictatorship. It truly was meant to be a government of the people for the people, and these checks and balances (such as Congress's ability to revise budgets, overrule the President on legislation, etc) help keep it that was. Bush is the first president in a while, if not ever, to make the biggest strides away from this with PATRIOT Acts I and II, and many other things that limit the American people's civil liberties.
The real reason that America is the biggest power right now is the lack of challengers. Who else has the funding to spend on defense, the powerful government (regardless of Democrat or Republican majorities), the nuclear threat, and the balls to enforce their views on the rest of the world? China's missing the government, India, Pakistan, and Russia are struggling economically (although India is rebounding thanks to outsourcing), and no other country has the population to make a serious global impact.
I'm sorry for rambling, but as a student of politics, and a non-partisan observer (from Canada), it amazes me at how much people don't understand how things work.
As soon as I read the words "not offtopic", I knew right away what this would be categorized as. Don't want to be modded down? Don't fall for the flame bait.
Actually, I find it faster to dial someone's number if they're located somewhere in the middle of my phonebook, and I have the number memorized - maybe that just comes from the slow OS on my Motorola v300.
Syncing it with my PC seems like the only viable way to enter contact information - I don't want to have to use the stylus every time I want to enter someone's information, but I never really did that with my Palm either.
Looking at the size of the phone, and my enormous fingers, I have a feeling I'd have trouble dialing correctly without a stylus, and who wants to use a stylus everytime they want to dial a number?
So I tried to RTFA, and I got a 500 error past the first page - so my question is without a numeric keypad, how the heck do you dial the phone? Do you use the stylus - cause that would just be annoying.
I like this analogy - CDs are more damage resistant than LPs, as is ceramic versus glass.
However, a scratch on an LP ruins the quality, just as a scratch on a glass lens will ruin the pictures... But ceramics are crippled in the first place with their image noise, just like CDs and their flatness.
Wow, I really like this analogy. Thanks.
Problem with Flash modules is that they only have so many accesses/resets in them before they break down. That's why Flash computers aren't viable... Cell phones, sure, the cpu access is minimal, and the memory access even more so. However, if you've ever trying to run your computer off of a USB key (it's possible), you'll know how quickly the memory degrades.
I have an HP Photosmart R607, which is 4.2 megapixels, and not all that large. Sure, it's bigger than a credit card, but it easily fits into any pocket I have, and the image quality is wicked.
Is it worth buying a camera like this just for it's size? Wouldn't you be better off buying a Cybershot U or its offshoots? Sure, you may be getting a slightly lower megapixel rating (and not in some cases) but you won't have that noise.
These cars were also featured in a recent WIRED - cool concept, but the space limitations (both for the driver, and for trunk space) will ensure that I won't be getting one any time soon... need somewhere to stash the bodies.
And if you believe that, I have another for you...

Now, I'm not saying M$ is any better - IE is the worst piece of software known to man - but I hope Firefox doesn't run into the same problems that the pre-mozilla based stuff did.
You know, the review did a good job of letting you know that ceramic lenses allow you to make the camera smaller... but is the image quality the same through ceramic? Wouldn't it be more translucent, and thus more susceptable to light refractions?
Someone help me out here.
Listen, I'm as big of a Linux fan as anyone, but trusting my coding (or even worse, someone else's) to work on my specific build out in the middle of a fog when it's failure means being hopelessly stranded... That's a pretty frightening thought. At least if something is released commercially and it fails like that, you can sue once (if?) you get back to shore.

Of course, these services are all inferior to PayPal because of the exorbant fees that each charges. Useful in a pinch, but if Paypal disappeared, I would wager that most merchants would choose to set up a merchant account directly with CC companies, and avoid the extra cost. The convenience just isn't worth it.
I hardly think they could just pack up and leave without any legal retaliation... They do so much business internationally that the number of countries the executive could hide in would be limited (and they'd be subject to extradition laws - they'd need to find a country with no extradition treaty with the US, and one without any customers that have PayPal accounts)
Is it not a little frightening that the Slashdot users, the so-called "tech elite", can still come close to falling for these scams? What hope does the home user who isn't even adept enough to use more than two fingers to type have? Maybe that's the business I should get in...
You think that Paypal is doing business on an unprecedented scale? Sure, maybe in the U.S., banks don't handle as much of a load, seeing as there are a million different branches... but look at credit card companie, and how there is never any downtime in their systems. You think that VISA's billing department, or the credit verification department, or many others don't do the same amount of business as PayPal? (if not more)
Most of the comments are right - you don't try to implement a new interface or a new system without extensive load testing... If you can't do extensive load testing, you have to either phase things in VERY slowly, or scrap the update until the testing can be done.
I would have to go with Windows... likely XP. The OS has to be simple to use, and it has to be something the children are familiar with, or at least can be familiarized with quickly. As much as Linux or Mac OS may be better in other aspects, I have yet to find a build of Linux that would be easy to set-up in this fashion AND user-friendly for all of the children.
As for a Mac, while the OS may be more friendly is some ways, different peripherials are involved, including different keys on the keyboard, and different mice than the PC...
As well, software could be a potential problem... the usual thing Mac and Linux users always hear.
Sadly, it's pretty simple. They will pick Dell because the vast majority of computer users use PCs with some form of Windows on them, thus causing minimal training of the children, and there's never a shortage of Windows "professionals" to take care of the system.
You also lost most of my respect that was gained by naming those apps by stating that you run Windows ME, aka the buggiest OS in all existence. You'd be better off running 3.1 than that POS.

As I'm sure you know, OSX is Linux based - I'm sure a port will come shortly provided the demand is there.
