There sure was a market. Apple created iTMS. The iPod was a late-arriving, me-too product with fancy packaging and a lot of marketing that created nothing. Apple benefited from XPlay's efforts to broaden its sales appeal. Prior to that iPods originally worked only with macs. Hardly a market-maker there.
Apple lovers are sure good with revisionist history.
The carbon was superior to the mini in every way. All it lacked was the mini's 3rd party accesories which were in no way apple's doing. It is the mini that sucked with its ugly case, crappy battery and 4GB drive. The carbon offered smaller size, better looks, 25% more space, double the battery life, and music transfers as a usb storage device. No comparison (until the mini got the 6GB drive).
of course that was done by another company that rio bought out. empegcar I believe. Why that type of product hasn't succeeded I don't understand. Why iPod integration in cars is so crappy I don't understand either. Why the Kenwood Music Keg is so bad is hard to believe yet it is. Why can't we enjoy superior sound and usability in the car at this point?
plus the Carbon allowed transfer of music as a generic USB storage device. No jukebox software required. The Carbon was way better than the mini except for the large aftermarket for mini accesories.
"Baby girls start speaking on average three or four months before their male counterparts."
That would suggest they develop quicker. Girls are bigger than boys of the same age when they are young too. Does that mean women are bigger and stronger than men?
Who says the niece is straight anyway? Who's to say she'd care about you or your opinions?
You say you "target the brainy, yet stil physically healthy, women almost exclusively". Almost exclusively? I guess you have a little room in your heart for a big, well hung black guy.
"Anyway, that kind of thing seems like an ancient adaptation in our species."
There's no reason to claim this. All you are saying is that social roles effect how children develop. No need for ancient adaptations to explain that. It's really pretty obvious.
There's a broad range in both sexes. I prefer to say that men are mean and women are crazy.
Since when has Apple typically taken the high-performance road? Performance legends in their own minds perhaps, but nothing other than slow processors in nice packages to everyone else. Even Apple recognizes that at this point.
Of course apple will be using chipsets as well as processors. They'd be foolish not to. All that PC "cruft" that people refer to ends up in the "who gives a shit" category anyway. It doesn't effect the performance of the machine and only matters to/.'ers. Apple may add some cruft of their own, but PC cruft like PCI, USB etc. have served them well.
Curious. I've owned two macs and both failed within a month. Every iPod I've owned has failed. In contrast I've owned a large number of Dell laptops (>8) and have never had a failure. Most of my failures in PC's are power supplies and hard drives. Macs have those too.
"It works really well. Macs are easier to use, period, hands-down, no rational argument. People are really smart, for the most part, and quickly get used to new things if they're motivated and interested. No surprise that the people you try to terrify don't do so well."
What a well thought out paragraph that is! I agree with the "no rational argument" comment as long as it was applying to yours. Apparently you believe that macs are easier to use for really smart people who are motivated and interested. What isn't easy for those people?
Because true "free software zealots", say RMS for instance, don't have any problem with the GPL. If you release your app under the GPL then you don't have to pay any fee, $3000 or otherwise. Curious that the LGPL, a license RMS provided under protest and one whose use he greatly discourages, has become the rally cry for Gnome blowhards. Since when have FOSS supporters cared how much commercial developers had to pay in order to deliver their apps? Poor babies!
I didn't realize that MS made all their development tools available to programmers free of charge.
There is no team and there is no "we". RMS is certainly not on the same team as the BSD folks.
The reason for the Linux head start was that BSD was once threatened with lawsuit. Had the timing been different, Linux may never have gathered mindshare. Relatively few really care about Stallman's revolution.
So I should have all the sex I want, or only the kind you approve of? I needn't suppress my desire to have sex even if it's with your children? Just thought I'd ask.
I guess the issue is easy when your thoughts run right down the middle. I doubt many would enjoy the lifestyle of the sexual free-for-all that you endorse.
"boxen" is not an example of living language. It's a pathetic attempt to sound cool. Creative distortions of vocabulary are only funny when done spontaneously---not when parroted by thousands of pubescents.
The goal is to make the machine do it's job as well as it can. For some people that means as fast as possible. You may not value speed but some do. Once upon a time you couldn't consider nonlinear video editing on a notebook but now you can. Same is true for professional image editing. These users value performance far more than a traveling email user.
If you think back far enough there were no such things as notebooks. So what? It matters not how today's notebook compares to desktops an arbitrary number of years ago.
It's no surprise that a mac person would claim that sticking to old, antiquated screen resolutions was somehow an advantage. At any rate, it's not screen dpi that matters but rather viewing angles and that's effected by both dpi and view distance. Notebooks and desktops have different viewing angles so there's absolutely no consistency in keeping the screen dpi the same. Notebooks need higher dpi screens because they are viewed closer.
My biggest complaint with the Apple 30" display is its measly 100 dpi resolution which requires you to sit back from it and negates some of it's advantage. No mac notebook has a competitive display. Get with the program, Apple.
Love how you associate Apple innovation with IBM product announcements. I guess Apple can innovate far more frequently now with Intel's announcements. Apple uses the parts; they don't design them.
Who are "we all"? You think you're a member of some kind of team? Who's to say who's honorable and who are the good guys? This guy did something of interest to him and nothing more. His ideology is simply different than yours and, in his view, google did something sufficiently "evil" (in your words) to merit a response. He doesn't answer to you or to some imaginary "geek community".
...and furthermore, what's the dirty trick? Enforcing the patent is a pretty obvious thing to do under the circumstances. The patent system seems to be working as intended here.

No, out in the real world looks play just as important a role as ever. People's behavior never changes.
If you have the looks and the charisma you don't need the brains to make money. That holds true for men as well as women just not as much.
Men and women both want all kinds. You generalization means nothing.

not to mention humble.

what utter bullshit

Nothing's up with that. One of the cases where goto works nicely.
Of course, there's no reason to believe that Google only hires "top-coders" but this isn't evidence to the contrary.
