Parent his the nail right on the head. If my cable company offered a decent VoD service to watch episodes of series that I missed for whatever reason, I would have no motivation to download said episodes. Also, pay per view VoD doesn't appeal to me as a solution since I've already paid to have access to the show via my subscription fee.

Note, I have tried to setup a PVR solution, but haven't managed to implement a satisfactory solution yet, TiVo wasn't an option for me since I'm in Canada, and my cable company (Rogers) has crappy DVRs.

Last I heard, everything on the Internet already has an address. Since we have these things called databases, we can match up a MAC address and a billing acount, why the heck can't we get all these combined together? Of course, we'd all need to have a static IP address, and we all know that that's impossible unless you pay extra.

Just one little problem with this, MAC addresses are never seen outside of a network, they are only used inside a network. And static IPs don't help if someone takes their phone adapter with them on a business trip either.

Ok, the parent post is obviously well though out, but misses one critical thing. Better engines were being developed back in the 60's and early 70's, the NERVA program attempted to design a nuclear rocket engine.

There is no reason to assume that chemical propulsion is the only solution available.

I think the point is that because the person in question is working smarter, why should he wind up getting paid the same as his co-workers while being more productive?

I don't think anybody is arguing that we shouldn't increase productivity, the argument here is that finding an innovative solution to a problem thus increasing your productivity should be rewarded.

If you have an environment in which working smarter merely results in you doing more work for the same pay as the people who are doing less work where is the incentive to be more productive?

    NAT and PAT both apply.

When you are behind NAT and you want to run 2 webservers, only one of them can sit on port 80 AS VISIBLE TO THE OUTSIDE WORLD.

What you can do (if you're too lazy to change one of the server configs) is to use your lovely router doing the NAT to translate port requests to another port, say 81 to port 80 on the second webserver. The problem with this is that people outside the network have to know and be able to send a request to port 81 to hit the second server.
