I guess it'd be hard to justify going after the 7inchers as they did exist in greater numbers before the iPad was even officially announced. (sure there were some 10inch tablets before the iPad was announced, shame the JooJoo tablet can't counter sue Apple for THEIR look and feel!)
As to the shape/design of the iPad, we've seen there were devices that had that bezel shape before Apple used it too. This is all reeking of desperation from Apple; as others have commented above, they're seeing the market for the phones dissolve, and knowing they can't compete on technical innovation, are litigating.
It's a standard, agreed upon, connector that others are able to use. It/looks/ like the Apple one, sure, but how else are you going to make a connector with that many connections you want plugged in one way? It's going to be flat by design.
What could be funny is if they remove the papers from their DNS servers too if following the exact letter of the instruction. Then they'll be totally invisible to anyone using the Google DNS servers
Current stuff/might/ be legit, so Google tells them to sit tight, works around the patent, next release of android doesn't invalidate those patents, htc/samsung/whoever tells MS 'thanks, but we don't need to license your patents now, so sorry, bye bye"
Pretty much. It's bad that when attacked, you have to then hire huge amounts of lawyers to trawl through prior art/invalidate prior claims, when if the USPTO had done their job correctly in the first place, we'd not be in this place.
Pity people can't sue the USPTO for negligence or at least the costs they've incurred having to fight these claims. It might cause them to do a better job/chuck it all out and start again. (which would be hilarious in the case of all this Nortel stuff).
Sure it'd have a jump up in price by a fair bit.. Then Gates himself doing the spiel for Windows 8, that'd get a bump too. The amount of press headlines would give a surge, but he'd have to be back and actually involved to maintain it I think. That'd take a few years so he can get back upto speed on what's there now and direct going forward for a couple of product releases.
Apart from that joke about bumping into Bill in the Airport, if it ever did happen, I'd love to have a good chat with him over a coffee (I'd even pay for it, but he's cover the cookies). Talk vision/tech/whatifs. Ballmer? I don't think I'd be on the right wavelength to have a conversation with him. He's obviously not got the techy gene in him.
I'm sure part of the agreement was to gang up and start slapping Google around a bit more. So, that's Apple and Nokia together (and through Nokia now, Microsoft too).
From the vids, looks like it uses regular android keyboard when it hits a textfield. So should be ok. Though hearing it's got a BT chip? Might be good to pair up a BT keyboard. Screen refreshes shouldn't be too bad on a console.. (though using VI on these things isn't good at the best of times, this might be a bit/too/ extreme)
This'll be perfect for following scared women at night, and disabling their ability to make calls/send texts/take a picture. And sure cops will have their flashing lights stopping pictures being taken of them.
Can't think why I'd want a camera that would do this. The small ability to get meta data about something I'm taking a piccy of is far outweighed by the negative uses.
And then we have another perfect example of the Streisand Effect. The doc might win, but the damage to his reputation would make it a hollow victory. Who'd risk going to see a doc/dentist that bodges up and sues anyone that tries to warn people? (hmm, might have a whistleblower exemption here too).
Dogs ARE better, but they don't have lobbyists. More money to be made selling a tech solution. Therefore we ended up with the most expensive solution, not the best.
Some old, OLD resource kit for windows nt, faffy to set up but best virtual windows app I've used. CTRL F1/F2 whatever to jump around screens so can put the email/browser on one screen, dev tools on another screen, vnc views on other screen, one spare as needed.
For dual screens, I find a second machine with a monitor, vnc server, and win2vnc works well to be able to have more things going on too (though it's usually hulu/netflix during calm times...!).
I'm wondering if this will only help actually. Where else are the phone makers going to get an OS/that many apps quick enough to compete with Apple? And if they don't like to be told the interface, they going to go to Microsoft that's even more restrictive?
Don't know. Still too early to tell, but I don't think it'll be as doom and gloom as some are saying.

Think differently indeed.

This is an iPad design from 2004 on a TV show;

Unlock bootloader/or root it. There's a linux core there, rooting seems to make more sense than Jailbreaking.

+1 NC sale because it was hackable
+1 NookTouch sale tonight because of this.
It makes sense to be nice to the device hackers, as it generates sales/goodwill from the community.
To be fair, we DID have THE best machine compared to anything else at the time (and for a few years after!).

Go go masking tape.
I'd not worry. I'd forgotten that he'd dropped that naming sequence too and was thinking the odd weren't the stable release until this thread.
I guess that's what happens when law makers don't really get what's going on, and the techies tasked to implement this stuff don't really care.
No way this can be binding.

Exactly the point. It'd ruin future and existing customers. Who ever thought this'd be a good idea needs a good slapping.

Possibly. One for the lawyers to try on, and make lots of money whilst doing so.
But I think it'd be a valid argument.

Replace Ubuntu front end with an Android VM?
