He first says that "there's at least a chance that Linux does indeed infringe on Microsoft's patents". And tries to justify this by saying "only Microsoft has access to most of its source code" . But only the whole damm planet has access to what the patents say.
What does Patents have to do w/ Source code. Does anyone think that Adrian Kingsley-Hughes is aware that anyone that has a patent has to basically make it public.
This whole issue stinks. M$ posts a "trade secret" to the web. They supposely "make" you agree to a NDA, which is very easily not to agree to and still see the "trade secret". Then they let their lawyers loose on the first person who does this(/.). Doesn't this sound like a set-up. Courts all ready ruled you can not entrap someone(ie. stick a $100 bill on the sidewalk and prosecute the first peson who grabs it for robery). Why would this be different
Pretty pictures, but he doesn't say, or even propose a way to build this "Gravitational Spacecraft". It works in theory, but thats like saying you could be anywhere, everywhere, anytime you want just by going as fast as the speed as light. When your able to buy a ticket, then it works.
Of course I been know to propose even more crackpot ideas then this, so who am I to criticize(sp).
Just a quick search of the so-called "experts", Phil Roberts, Clive Longbottom, & Bernie Dodwell, would reveal that all three of them work for companies that provided, and only provided, M$ 'solutions'. I'll leave it up as a lesson for/.'s to track down the email addresses of the offending experts.
VERY VERY difficult, if not impossible ("hot-swapable kernels"). Been discussed some time last year, check kernel archives. The HURD would more likely be possible to do this being a microkernel.
I know this is off topic, But I was just curious if anybody else thought about the idea of this past week's M$ stockholders meeting being riged? What I'm, specifically talking about is, it was reported at numerous places, that during the meeting there was a # of standing ovations and after the meeting how parents with their children rushed up to the stage to get Bill's autograph.
Now considering M$'s other feebile attempts to get "grass roots" PR, doesn't it sound like the audience might have been staked? I personally would like to get be able to get some photos of the event and identify the people there.
How did someone as scary looking as you(@ least from what I can tell from pictures of you), did you get a girl like Telsa to even go out with you, let alone marry you? OK, its a troll question, but I been meaning to ask Telsa it so I thought I might ask you first. Second question, do you get paid for your published articles (ex. Linux Mag)? Steve
3) These gloriously anti-establishmentarian crowds swarmed over young Linus Torvalds, the creator of Linux, whose anti-Microsoft pronouncements started to sound like some kind of call for jihad.
As with any other issue out there, you have people who tend to take their positions to an ultimate extreme. Similar to the touted Mac-Zealotry.
ps. You forgot to mention (as the author of the article has also) that Bill Gate$ was in this postion 4 years ago when Windoze 95 first came out. You think there will be much fanfare when win 98 patches (even though it will still cost you money for fixes) comes out?
This "research" is below most 'GEEKS' inteligents. They have done NO study, but state numbers like they have been done by research. A large number of their facts are blantanly wrong. I believe the only reason they are discussing 'open source' is the same reasons Gore2000 (use to be: AlGore2000, whats up with that?) is using it, its a hot topic and they want to create exposure to themselves by somhow associating with it.
This subject was brought up before. Boycotting (which I am NOT advocating) would be an incredibly large undertaking. People who are advocating this needs to think about it, it took the FSF (or the GNU Project) 15 years to where it is today when they decide to "boycott" proprietry UNIX. There are claims of just using *BSD's code to do the rewrite. Obviously these people have not taken a close look at *BSD code. IMO, I do NOT believe it is possible to replace GNU code without a total rewrite.
If you find any illogical mistakes in my staments, please correct me.

hint. it wasn't that hard

What are your job duties?
Like:
Do you make executive decisions for debian?
Do you just keep organization?
Do you handle legal maters?
Etc..., refering back to the orginal question, what are your duties?
side question- describe a typical day, week, month?
Steve Bibayoff

IMO, the whole site should have been ignored!!!

Quoting from the article:
> "I guess we are finding out that there are >many open source spokesmen, but Eric owns the >Open Source Initiative trademark," Tevanian said.
Is he implying that only ESR could legaly certify something "Open Source"?
