There have been a lot of posts about "do this" or "do that" and there are a lot of them that apply universally.
I find though that one of them most overlooked items is the communication style that's used. To be a successful manager, you need to learn how to adapt your communication style to each of the individuals. Some people need to be pumped up, some need to be challenged, and some just need to be pointed in the right direction.
Most of all though, you need to make sure that they know when they've done a good (or great) job because when they know when they did well, they can (usually) repeat it in the future.
A friend of mine used to be a tech support guru for a good sized computer manufacturer, they were having a lot of problems with people's computers "not turning on." Turns out a lot of people were having problems remembering to plug the computer in first.
The problem for the tech support guys is that people would keep pretending the computer wasn't working because they felt like idiots for not plugging it in and didn't want to give that away as the cause.
The solution was a crafty tech support answer: "can you follow the cord back to the wall, unplug it, turn the plug over and plug it in back in.. sometimes changing the polarity will fix the problem."
If you can hear it, why don't you just record it.
The guys over at High Criteria came up with a product called Total Recorder. It works great for grabbing the audio clips that you want.;-)

It's the first movie filmed entirely in front of a blue screen AND with all backgrounds being computer generated

Sounds like there are too many old people that are in denial about their need for reading glasses!
