  1. Re:1982! on Nobel Prize Awarded for Stomach Ulcer Discovery · · Score: 1

I guess it depends on how willing your doctors are to accept new ideas (and probably as well how screwed up the whole healthcare system is - not allowing new treatments and ideas in order to avoid class action lawsuits and other things hindering progress...)

When I had my first ulder in 1989 (you don't even want to know how old I was back then...), my doctor told me about the whole H.pylori thing. The problem was that another doctor (who didn't know about this yet) had already started me on antibiotics by the time I had an endoscopy done so those poor little buggers had already decided to leave...

  4. improvement? on Cell Phone with Built-in Projector · · Score: 1

So, now I can write the same number of text messages in half the time before the battery runs out? Honestly, these things are called cell phones and this is what they should do - enable you to talk on them for extended periods of time without having to worry about your battery running out. All these additional features added lately are sure cute but in the end only equate to shorter battery life...

  5. What exactly is "audio data" on Companies Claim iTMS, iPod Patent Infringement · · Score: 1
Well, actually reading the claims of the "jukebox patent", it claims:
A music jukebox configured for storing a music library therein, said music jukebox comprising: a housing; an audio data receiver arranged to receive audio data from outside the housing; [...]
Not sure exactly, but what exactly is "audio data"? Is something you need to decode first audio data too or would you actually need a microphone/line-in to receive audio data?
  6. Re:How particular is the software? on Face Recognition Comes to Cameraphones · · Score: 1
I am wondering how particular the recognition software is. There could be some considerable day-to-day differences in a face if, say, one was ill, or had a bad fall, etc. Could I, for example, take a friends camera, take a pic of a good photo of my friend and then gain access to his phone/pda/device?
And why is that worse than what is currently the case? Simply take a friends phone and you have access to the things already - the camera is another step which could prevent some people (I don't think that the random person stealing my cell phone would have a pciture of myself...)

First of all just about every security patch requires a reboot. Also if the security patch upgrades quicktime you need to actually interact with the gui or the install won't go.
Not quite true - if you use the command-line interface to softwareupdate and provide the proper swichtes, no UI interaction is required. The CLI also doesn't force you to do a restart, it just tells you to do so ASAP...

  14. In the US - consider the costs... on Email Notification via SMS in the US? · · Score: 3, Informative

Considering that the OT comes from Europe, there is a very important thing to add - you will pay for incoming SMS (or have them deducted from your bucket of allowed SMSs - depending on your provider and/or plan). As opposed to Europe (at least the countries I lived in) where all incoming communication is free, you will pay for that in the US - both, for voice as well as SMS. So, depending on your email volume, you might re-think whether this is really worth it... (I use it - T-Mobile customer - and their website allows you to set up rather precise filters for which messages/accounts/senders/... you receive a notification)
