1. Slashdot gets overrun on The Cheese Slicing Laser · · Score: 1

Slashdot servers are working overtime so every geek can come up with creative, and not-so-creative, 'cut-the-cheese' jokes. I'm not going to lie, it was my first instinct too. Stop what you're doing and back away from the 'cut-the-cheese' cliche. You're only hurting yourself man!

  2. Studies on The Trouble with MMORPGs · · Score: 2, Interesting

We did a study on this in my Social Issues In Computing class last year. Online RPG'ing is a scary thing. People get sucked in and lost the ability to coherently act outside of the game. Who do we blame? The gaming organization? I don't think so. They are just good at what they do. It is like when Coca Cola put traces of cocaine in their soda. They were just good at getting people addicted...then the whole cocaine is illegal thing came to notice. Oh well.

What if they're afraid of VR or video games...talk about messin with their heads!

  4. Are they serious? on First Napster 2.0 Review · · Score: 1

Does anyone amongst this board actually think people will start using Napster 2.0 and paying? People, albeit ignorant people, are still on Kazaa. To them Kazaa = free and easy. Napster 2.0 = not free, and I would say unstable, but I don't think the average user understands that, so i'll just say 'not easy.' Point being, I doubt this is going to go over very well. iTunes is barely detracting from the free networks. If winMX had a decent GUI that was mor euser friendly, people would just hop onto that once the Kazaa network was totally defunct. The RIAA is fighting a losing battle, and the people that make software to assimilate to them are just prolonging this process.

  5. Scaring Who? on Suing Your Customers: Winning Business Strategy? · · Score: 1

This might scare people off Kazaa because its a watched network. But some people are still ignorant to the RIAA and continue to use Kazaa. Eventually Kazaa will be a dead network and other protocols will start to become more mainstream. bitTorrent, although for individual music sharing is bad, its great for large downloads(entire albums, movies, etc.). Gnutella clients are still safe, and while they aren't the choice for everyone, they will eventually become the only choice. New protocols/clients/servers will emerge from this battle with the RIAA with the specific goal to prevent them from succeeding.

  6. Re:Speaking to people on 10th Circuit Says FTC Can Enforce Do Not Call · · Score: 2, Interesting
At the end of the day its my choice if I want to speak to someone. If someone in the street says hi and I don't want to speak to them I won't. Also if I put a sign round my neck saying "Don't speak to me", as its my right I would like to think people would respect that.
So I lose my Freedom of Speech due to your yearn for silence? I'm not so sure I buy that. However, if you paid to walk down the street, you should be able to regulate what happens, to a certain extent, while walking down the street. I mean after all, it is a monthly service, isn't it?
