I don't recall being scared when being polygraphed for work at the NSA. Luckily I only took the CI polygraph because I was in the military (no lifestyle - don't ask don't tell). I took the test in a room with a one-way mirror and video camera mounted in the corner. I think it was for the spook effect, but it didn't bother me. While the polygrapher was out of the room I sang the Soviet National Anthem (it was 1997) just to see if anyone was listening. If they were it didn't prevent me from passing the test.
Checking up a bit I noticed that the Guadalcanal offensive predates Operation Torch by 3 months (7 August 1942 vs 8 November 1942). So our first offensive of the war was against the Japanese.
Puppets or not, Morocco and Algeria were defended by French forces not German. You can google for Operation Torch or read a description on the DTIC site: Joint Power Projection: Operation Torch
I believe this caused some concern during the planing for Operation Torch. The allies feared the memory of the attack on the French navy might lead some troops to put up stiff resistance since British troops were among the invaders.
French North Africa was controlled and defended by Vichy French troops not Germans. When the US invaded Morocco and Algeria they fought the French. The US first engaged the German army at Kasserine in Tunisia after the French surrendered.
Actually most Iraqi mainline military equipment was of Russian or French origin (T-72 tanks, AK-47s, Mirage fighters). The US provided more support equipment, not weapons.
The US did not support the Taliban. True Osama and the Taliban were fighting the same enemy, but US support was directed to less troublesome groups
The laws are still out there. If you own property you need to know the lot boundaries. If a neighbor builds a fence that crosses the boundary onto your land, builds a shed on the seized land, and you do not force him off the land becomes his after the time specified in the law.
No the law does not require your employer to pay you. However it shouldn't even be an issue since polls in most areas are open for longer than 8 hours. Where I live the polls are usually open for 13 hours from 7 am to 8 pm. I could work a 10 hour day and still get to the polls.
I'll keep my boring sedan for the short, routine driving around town and spend my cash on electronics and other goodies. I spend much more time in my house than in my car. I could be happy still driving my old VW Bug if it meant a large screen plasma TV for my living room.
I have the metered rate on my landline. I pay $13 a month plus 8 cents for each outgoing call. When I had voice mail each call forwarded to my mailbox counted as an outgoing call. If it was just friends and family it wouldn't be a big deal, but the bulk were telemarketers. During the worst attack I received 25 telemarketing calls in one day. I quickly switched to an answering machine and am saving at least $10 a month.
True Americans often have training in a second language or were raised bilingual. However it is more difficult to maintain the skills in the US.
I took two years of Spanish and two of German in high school. Additionally I was trained in Russian for work. Of these I can only claim proficiency in Russian since I used it for years at work. I only recall the basics of the other two.
I do have coworkers who are fluent in other languages. Most were raised bilingual and still use it with family. A couple others spent time abroad.
Bad cut and paste.
Actual link is TITLE 10, Subtitle A, PART I, CHAPTER 13, Sec. 311
According to US Code TITLE 10, Subtitle A, PART I, CHAPTER 13, Sec. 311 every able-bodied male between 17 and 45 is a member of the militia.

You either have a poor memory or poor knowledge.

I don't know about you, but if you're like most Americans you don't get Election Day off from work
In the US employers are required to give you enough time off to vote

$200 a month? Must be one expensive car or one bad driver. My Altima was under $70 a month new.

I'm impressed. GSI has already discovered element 111. I've been trying to discover element 79 in my basement with no luck.
The problem is my paycheck often has negative, irrational or imaginary dollar amounts.
I tend to look at the number printed on the bill.
