I have often thought about this - using game theory and weather forcasting-type algorithms to predict future scocial/economic patterns. Sounds interesting. Of course I know nothing about weather forecasting and very little of game theory, so this may not be possible.
I see the 3D revolution "peaking" as a new gaming "golden age". Remember when 2D gaming peaked with the SNES and the Genesis (the last "golden age")? Most game designers had been working with 2D for years and really knew how to handle the medium, so content was king. They really had to push the contnent envelope then. Same thing is going to happen pretty soon with 3D. Eventually there will be fewer "NEW FEATURE X" games because it has all been explored and developers will return to making games with great content. I am not saying that isn't happening already - it is, and we already are seeing the content improve. I think that this trend will continue until the next "big thing".
Or maybe online content is the next "big thing" and we won't see the maturing of the current medium. Who knows.
If you read Penny-Arcade's "The Hook Up" he talks about component video switchers, I guess there is some question of them passing a HD signal... Kind of ruins the reason to have component. Here is a component switcher, not sure how it works (if it passes HD or not), but for $100 I guess you can't ask for much.
I would be interested to find out how that particular accessory works though... I myself am probably going to get a decent reciever and use a few of the inputs on that, or go with some really High Quality extension cables and make an "extension box" to plug one console in at a time...
We want better - trust me. I just purchased a HDTV (480p, 1080i) and, while it is great playing at 480p you really see the poor quality of the textures. The only game I played in 1080i was Enter the Matrix and, while it had its own problems, you realize that current game systems are really not yet capable of HD content. I would love to see all next-gen game systems support 720p/1080i (using HDMI/DVI) out of the box. How many PC's today would support full features at 1080x1920 and 60fps? Not many I would hazard. (Time to buy that DVI/HD converter for my Radeon and see 8*)

I believe that the parent was trying to demonstrate the absurdity of a law that tries to limit DUI's by "punishing" everyone.

Also, you can download the "IE click to view" extension to look at the IE only websites... Works wonders for me.
Of course, for that particular movie it was a GOOD thing.
